86 GT -vs- 99 GT auto

OK, it's not a REAL kill but I'll take what I can get since I missed Carlsbad. Grabbing a late bite to eat at Jack's, buddy of mine who recently bought a 99 GT pulled in. Says he knows my 86 will blow him away but just wanted to get an idea of what he's running. Got on the freeway, ran him from 50 to about 90 and had him by a couple car lengths. Got off the freeway and ran from a light and he was many car lengths behind by 70. Meanwhile, wife is laughing and reminds me not to repeat last Friday's incident. Buddy is ready to spend money on converter and other miscellaneous go-fast parts.

One of the guys at work has a stock GT with an auto - I drove that and I honestly think my crew-cab dually could take it off the line. I was kinda surprised the auto was that slow from a stop. No disrespect intended for you mod owners, by the way.
