93 Probe GT how fast?
 

I was at my friend apartment last nite and some guy shows up I didn't know. First thing he does is start asking me what I've done to my car.... I don't like to say what i've done so I asked him what kind of car he had. 93 Probe GT 5spd stock except for exhaust and clutch. He said it runs 14.8's?? He then proceeded to tell me about all sorts of money races etc he's been in and how he's raced this car and that. So I told him I had a stock aod with exhaust and we should run about the same times http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/cont.../Wink_anim.gif and why don't we race for $20. He then proceeded to back down and tell me he was getting a "Garrett T4 turbo" for it in a few weeks and he will race me then. Typical ricer move. Anyway was the guy bsing about running a 14.8? How fast are these things? I know it's not a turbo one just the regular GT.

FivepointOH, it sounds like party time beer talk to me. Once somebody starts saying later, after I get this mod or that, it means they don't really want to race. At least that's been my experience for the last 40 years. If someone is serious they'll jump at the chance, at least to set up the race.

On a side note, we really should not street race if there has been much alcohlol consumed. But we all knew that anyway.

maybe a 15.8 i dont think it would run a 14.8 a clutch and exu. even if it was one of the turbo probes I raced a turbo probe in my 95GT AODE when it was bone stock(even still had the air sli.) and I beat him by 3-4 cars and that car run a 15.1 at 92mph stock

Hey, I used to own a Probe before I got my Mustang. His times sound reasonable. The GT's are low-mid 15 second cars in stock trim. So with a good driver and his mods they sound realistic.

14.8 is probably a little off, but it could be true. Those things have a fair amount of power, 4.30 gears stock, and are super light. (for a domestic car). My friend had a 5speed probe GT and he wasted me when I had my modded 95 v6 stang. 14.8 is a possiblity, but again, I doubt it.

A friend of mine has a 95 probe GT 5spd (his nice car is a 95 gt with bolt ons) anyway the other night at the track he could not take his stang so he showed up in his probe. So anyways we gave him crap tell he finally agreed to run it his best pass (out of two) was a 16.0@86.6, although he did only get this car three weeks ago, so he could probably get better times with more practice. Well we were there he looked at some other probes to get a idea of a few mods he could do to his driver there was a CAI and exhaust car running 14.9's so I bet the time is the truth.

First off, I find it hard to believe. BUT on the other hand I have heard that the 89-92 and 93-97 Probes all ran similar times even with the different bodies and diff. engines. I did witnessed a stock 91 GT Probe V.S. a stock 89 GT Stang at the track and the Stang won 15.1 to 15.2. And to add on to the subject of 93-97 Probes with turbos, I have heard them go into the 13's with just a turbo.

Very Possible he runs that time. What was the stock HP versus what he has now?U can do Very Little to "these" types of vehicles and get results. I have an 86 Grand Marqui 4 door monster.It ran good and with no tuning at all ran a 17.96.I did a Very good tune up. Added an MSD Coil.TPS adjustment, No EGR.Timing at 12,160 Thermostat.Polished Stock TB inside and thats about it. So, what did I really do? Not much, Went a 16.60. Then I went to an elec Fan and got rid of that clutch crap.Disconnected the Hot Water Lines to the TB.Added a Home Made Cold Air system but stayed with a Good Air Filter,NON K/N.A few more little odds and ends, BUT NO internal engine work. Now REMEMBER, this IS a 5.0 but NOT a Mustang Motor. IF that probe Gave me the hit and or I stole him out of the hole,who knows?,LOL. PS, I have a Race weight of 4,200, so thats next.btw- I have a 2.193 60'

this is great, this site has the most honest people. If you go to any other site's for some reason they say that the probe can do like 12's. I dont believe that, but some people do. this site is great they dont talk the numbers way down.

I agree, the people on this boards are very mature and more fun to talk to. I find it much better than Stangnet anyway.

I saw this guy again on wednesday..... he said if I gave him 2 cars he'd run me for $50. I told him it's on some other nite(I was drinking a lot) so we'll see what happens.

1BAD89, I think you could give him half way down the 1330' and still beat him if you were on the bike.

Laugh Harcore? What does that mean? $50 is not enough,or r u 1 of those who think ALL races ,for some VERY strange reason need to b Head Up,?--Back 2 that in a Minute.Rev? Do u mean 660 Rolling,or 660 from a standstill? IF U meant rolling, The Bike would have to be a Mid 5 second Bike! If u meant from a standstill it would still need 2 b a Mid 9 Bike.Check the Math, u will see I am correct.Now, back to the 1st order of business. So you think the Probe does a 9 sec '660? I kinda doubt it. probably more like 11 seconds. The bike might run the 1/4 in that time, maybe?

you win everytime?? how do you figure your handicap?? by what they tell you it ran or you know what every car runs??

I personally doubt that the Probe can run a 14.8 1/4 or a 9.0 1/8. Be that as it may be, maybe 1BAD89's bike can only spot him down to the 330' and still win, LOL. After all, aren't Probes just Mazda MS6's with the Ford badges?

I never said I "Thought" a Probe did nething, Obviously I was saying,A 14.8 IS a Mid 9 660, thats a fact..... I was going by Time only, not Car.U r correct however that IF "A" car went a Low17, then an 11 660 is correct. So u r saying thats what they run. I disagree,but no biggy.... I agree 100% with u LX about what U said. U r correct I am VERY accurate in determining ET. I am VERY good in Math and I have 20 Years of Racing under my belt,which helps in determining ET. I look at various factors,,,Exhaust,Tires,The "Sound" of the Vehicle, The "Look"of it,Suspension and a few other things. Just by that I can get VERY close to what it runs WITHOUT Nitrous. IF I happen to know how much Spray u use, that is probably the Biggest Help.I have raced everything from a 23 sec Truck to a 7 sec Motorcycle and have NEVER lost a "Money" Race. I agree Luck is a factor.Now a days I assume EVERY Vehicle that races has Spray, If not Oh well,LOL!PS: I don't use Spray,but 1 day I will hook up a Modest 100Hp kit and Play.

It's all about ego. If your standing around the street races with your buddies and someone comes up and wants to run for $$$ your going to ask what he has and you see a slower car your going to think something is up till he ask you for a couple of cars and the jump. Then what do you do?

It seems as if grand marqui only races if he knows hes goona win, am i right? Thats not how I race, reason being i actually like having close races. Sometimes i like them beating me, so i can throw another mod on and race him again. Its what keeps me racing. If i went around only racing guys that I could beat, that wouldnt be very fun. WOULD IT? just my opinion

I dont mind racing at the track with the bracket racing but on the street it is race what you brought and if you cant hang then dont race.
for me its the thrill of the race I will race you if you have a viper I dont care its fun for me like that.

Just curious, Do you ever race anyone on the street just for the fun of it? Even if you might lose and don't get a chance to write a contract before hand explaing all the rules and how many cars you get and the payment schedule after you win? j/k :D

It's a new way to see street racing for me. I really do it here for fun and enjoy it. To me, the real fun is when someone thinks their car is faster and we go from an identical point, then I can prove they are wrong and beat them. I have never raced for money and I never will. I don't gamble and that's just a personal choice. Just like not drinking.

I find very interesting to see how things go in other parts of north america.

Car lengths in ft.?
 

I'm kinda wondering how one measues the spotted car lengths and exactly how many ft. a car length is? 15 ft, 17 ft, or what? 25 carlengths seems like it would be at least 375 ft. At street races at night, does one get out his 50 ft tape and do it 7.5 times end to end or what? Maybe a guy needs to keep one of those measuring devices with the wheel that one roles to measure distances in the trunk of the car for when the need arises. I can just picture this scenario at the street races trying to set this up.

:D You guys are to funny. I guess you 2 are just so used to Heads up racing. A "Car Length" is Not an automatic unit of distance, It depends on the length of the car that is Getting the advantage.My Car is 17 feet long,so for me, 1 car length is 17 feet,BUT,VERY few actually measure the car and then take out a wheel and use it to measure,But I have seen it done, Not to measure Car Lengths, perse,but just a "Distance in feet" advantage.Car A sits at the start,Car B is Moved out in Car Lengths by 1 or 2 people(not pushing) but to make sure it is Fair. Car lengths are done in 2 ways Only!.. Back Bumper(Car B) even with front bumper(Car A) OR Back wheel(Car B)even with Front wheel (CAR B).Very easy to set up this race. If everyone knows what is going on, it takes 2 min after the cars are lined up EVEN.SO, for ME, 5 lengths would be an advantage of 85 feet,17 x 5 = 85,which for my ET is Not very much.:)

Is it just me, or does this get harder to believe all the time? There is no way something like that could fly out here. Even in the best places to street race in LA, this kind of discussion would take so darn long that the cops would be there and gone before anybody got to race.

I know there are places around the country that are a whole lot different, but this stuff seems a little too out there. I'm impressed that you can keep your story straight every time you tell it, but I have to call BS.

Who tries to bracket race on the street? I want to see some proof of this malarky taking place. Maybe then it will make more sense.

Question, if you have been online so long, why can't you just type faster? It seems that good typing skills would be much faster than trying to figure out how to shorten words. Besides how 'long' have you been online? Let's see, you're 34 so 20 years? Wait, the internet wasn't around then, so probably not any longer than many of the people here, and they all seem to type in real words.

How come if you have been racing for 20 years, which would make you 14 when you started racing, you don't have a faster car. If you like to race so much and have so much experience in it, it seems you would have a faster car. You wouldn't have to give people 25 car lengths.

Uhm here.....More than 90% of the articles I have seen that mention Street Racing say that East Coast Street Racing is Far More Serious than West Coast..... So show me some freagin proof of this please.

I am not going to take your word. Duece is a very smart guy ;) you should listen to him. As long as you have been online or atleast claim to be... you should be able to type faster and develope some typing skills.

STreet racing has got to be the most serious here in north eastern Colorado. We get out the tractors and line em up, I usually give people a couple tractor lengths cause I got a 100 shot on my Ferguson Plessy. It's just an inline 6, but its got mad low end power. We usually just race for cattle or sometimes if its serious horses. j/k:D

To me sreet racing is about fun and seeing how your car compares to others. Not money, but thats just me and everyone is entitled to their own brand of racing.

Theres alot of mistakes in your writing marqui, and it seems like you are not trying to fix this problem, I guess i could translate everything for you. J/K some of it is hard to understand for me too. like when you say "we have are problems too" refering to cops. its our not are but heh its ok man. Just giving you the heads up:cool:

my brother had a 94 probe gt. never ran it in the quarter, but i ran it on the highway on the way to my junior prom. car had chip, exhaust, and filter, and topped out around 140. so they are mildly fast.
