94 GT vs M5

I still can't believe it....I raced an M5!!! It was a 4 door, all black with an older guy(40s) driving. Well I purposely followed him onto rte 1 to see if he wanted to race. There was traffic so I kept behind him. He kept stepping on the gas and i kept seeing crap spit out of the dual exhaust so I know he was really getting on it. Anyways we finally get a light. As it turns green I get ready to launch and he does nothing....so I shift into second then he flys by me. I hammered it at around 3,000 rpms in second and took off after him, slowly reeling him in until I made up for my distance and some. We slow down again for a light but it turns green before we stop so we went from another second gear roll...this time with me more prepared. I let it loose and pull him pretty good. Then came another light and we both stopped. Light turns green and I baby the launch(dont want to spin) and he gets a half of car lead...I hammer it again at 3500 rpms in first gear and grab second as I shame him one last time. He couldnt even look at me, he just had a smirk on his face....Feels so good to beat such a car. Anyone know what they do in the 1/4?

it depends on what year it is.......

new ones are quoted in low 13's........

the older they are, the slower they run

MidNiteBlu 5.0 10-29-2002 06:43 PM

Motor trend took a 2000 model

0-60 - 4.7 sec
1/4 - 13.2 @ 107.4

There are older models out there too that are slower. Like early 90's i believe

Skyman 10-29-2002 08:21 PM

New ones will go near 110, the older ones trap around 105-106.

Nice kill, I like those cars!

well i saw an m3 2 door at the strip, trying to race a bullitt gt. he kept barley beeting him only cuz the dude in the stang couldnt drive for crap. i think the m3 ran a good mid 14, cant remember the actual numbers tho

BAleR 10-30-2002 11:06 AM

by the way, im pretty sure it was a 94-96 or somethin, just to let u know

*Steeda90GT* 10-30-2002 11:07 AM

Well my friend said it was a 2001. He couldnt believe that I pulled on him like that. I just looked up the times and it says low 13s@107mph...my car was trapping better then that with the cats on. Since then I put on an off road prochamber and a few other minor mods. It feels so good to shame one of those cars... :D

I work at a BMW dealer and I can say that the best thing about the M5 engine is that there is a ton of power at every single point in the power band. There is no waiting for the engine to wind up, no low rpm weakness.
You guys know its a 5.0, right? LOL. Thats about the only thing it has in common with a Ford 5.0 though.
Apparently theres another ~30hp to be released with a good set of headers on that car.

A kid that went to school with me said his dad had an M5. I asked him if he ever ran it at the track and he said "yeah, once" He said it ran a 12.42 @ 111. All he had done to it was exhaust mods and sticky tires. I couldn't believe it. I knew those things were fast, but that is really fast. I can't believe that exhaust gave him that much more performance.

Oh yeah. Great race. I'd love to race one of those things. REALLY NICE CARS. I like the sport M3s too. Love those cars. :D

BTW, just b/c you won doesn't mean you "shamed" anybody. You won-- that's all. Good run. What are you running in the 1/4?

MidNiteBlu 5.0 10-31-2002 10:33 PM

Well that guy driving a new M3 agaisnt a Bullit couldnt drive either. M3's are low 13 second cars too

Hmm, lets see...1994 Mustang GT taking out a 60+K car with 400HP, yeah I think he was pretty ashamed, especially because he wouldnt look at me afterwards and he was cocky in the beginning. I havent run my car with these new mods yet but before it went high 12s@110mph.

if/when anybody ever beats me in a cheaper, "lesser" car...........

i WILL NOT be "shamed"..........i base my pride on my actions as a person, my beliefs, my efforts, etc........not driving my car in a straight line

Yes thats the way I would feel if you were to beat me with your lesser car (VW Golf). By the way, my car's suspension is setup nicely and will outhandle that M5...It also has 13 inch front rotors, 4 piston calipers, cross drilled rotors....SO my car can do it all...

no need to call anyone's car 'round here lesser

what good does that accomplish?

roger that

red82gt 11-01-2002 05:54 PM

Fox Body, I don't get it? Shamed, beat, blew the doors off, etc... its all the same. I would say that anytime you can shut up a yuppie and make him too embarassed to look at you, I'd say you've shamed them. The guy thought he was going to teach this punk in the mustang a lesson, he failed.
Good job, STEEDA90GT!

Here We Go!

Here we go again....why can't we all just get along???? Because some folks who drive $80k cars can't believe they just got beat by a FORD!!!! They can't even look at us when it's all over, or as we're blowing by them! I love beating arrogant drivers with my little old stock looking stang! A little respect is pretty classy after you get beat. Just the nod of your head, or slight wave of the hand goes a long way and shows we all can just get a long and have fun. But if you don't have the class to do this, then you deserve to get STOMPED and embarrassed about it!! The other day I got into it with a loaded up LS1 T/A. Car must have stickered for close to $40k. I'm just lightly playing with him in traffic and the dude won't even acknowledge me, yet he's hustling along with me. We end up catching a light, however I'm right in back of him. As soon as light turns green he's off. I was ready for him and as soon as I clear the traffic next to me I swing to the other lane and start passing him. However I don't pass him, I just stay parallel with him and wave. They guy completely ignores me and I purposely let off it and let him keep going. He is pissed! He keeps his foot in it and he practically rearends eveyone who is stopped at the next light. He could not believe he could be pulled down by a little old GT. It was great!

How much hp has yor car got? From your signature it looks like you have modded your car quite a bit so taking a 'stock' M5 isn't a big surprise.

However, outhandle? I think you might struggle there. I've spent a lot of time messing with BMW's here in Europe and a standard M5 is the best handling saloon car in the world. I have driven a few Mustangs and none of them have got anywhere close. I've been in a M5 where the only mod was the removal of the speed limiter and a slight tweek in the ECU and that car ran at over 200mph in testing. The car runs on 18inch alloy wheels because you cant fit anything smaller due to disc and caliper size. It also has floating brake discs, like sports bikes, for even better braking performance, those things stop very quickly.

The M5 was developed on the Nuerburgring race circuit in Germany where handling is everything. The stock M5 takes about 8min 20 to do a lap a fully tuned up Porsche 911 does it in about 7min 50.
