Question 99-00 Lightning vs 94 Cobra

Hey guys, I have a question for you. I raced a Lightning the other day when me and the wife were out, and I haven't really thought about til now. I know the new Lightnings are fast, and I really don't think I should have beat it, but I don't suspect driver error. This guy was a little older than me, by about 10-15 years. All Lightnings were automatics, so all he realyy had to do was hit the gas, and the truck does the rest. We started at a roll, say 20-35 mph(I wasn't looking), and we race for about half a mile or so. I beat him by about 3-4 car lengths, and he ony caught up because I got out of light speed. What are these things running stock? Figuring his was stock, and the small amount of mods to mine, is my car on steriods? As you can see in my sig, I have run a best of 13.4, but I know I wasn't running that then. Too many sloppy shifts. I've raced a few before, and they always got me. since thenthe only thing I have replaced is my clutch, and shifter, both of which are not power mods. Anyway, sorry I got long winded. Do you think I just caught him on an off day?

Stock they run any where from 13.7-14.0 (at least thats what I see on www.F150online. But they have very mild shifts and a mild computer program from the factory. Usually, w/ only a chip and air intake, they can go 13.1-3 all day.

I raced a 99-00 going down the road and I pulled from him like a pull away from a 96-98 cobra (about 2 cars from 60-mid through 4th). If you held him off like that he either dosn't have a strong one or your car was pulling harder than the 101 trap speed indicates.

I think Dan was saying his lightning has been running real low 14's from the factory.

My friend said he pulled dead even with one on the freeway in his stock (bored) 306 87GT.

you mentioned that you raced for a 1/2 mile or so? how is the top end on a lightning? i'm figuring you were hitting 130+mph by the end of the race. takes alot to get something with the aerodynamics of a brick to move at those speeds.
on a slightly differant topic did anyone see the test of the new lightning on car and driver tv. they ran that thing to a 13.8@104!
that is one nice truck. make an extended cab and i might consider buying one.

I would like to tell you what the top speed was, but after hitting 100, I thought my attention should be diverted to the road. I would suspect that I was in the 135-140 range. I just thought they should have been faster stock.
Oh, and on my 13.4 run, I was running slicks, and I bogged at the line. Had a few bad shifts, so that should(?) account for it. Anyway, I'll be hitting a 1/4 mile track soon enough, so maybe I can get some real "street trim" numbers.

My buddy has a '01 Lightning and that thing has pretty awesome top-end for a truck. I walked a '00 L on the highway with my car. He was acting like he was going to walk me, not so.

From what I was hearing the 2001 models got another 20-25hp over the 2000's up to like 385. Damn, why is it so hard for Ford to put power into the Cobra but they have a never ending desire to supe up the F-150?

Wink

Well, if they put that kind of power into the Cobra, first of all, I'd buy one or two, second, what would Chevy have to compete with it? The 'Vette doesn't count!

Yeah they have like 385. Those trucks are awesome. Everything about it is awesome. Handles, looks sweet, rides good, and as I said before that thing has unbelievable top-end.
