99GT vs. 2000 Lightning

ok, i raced a lightning the otherday , it was around the 2000 or 2001? bodystyle. the guy ate me up and spit me out. first we raced from a stoplight then again from around a 30mph roll, i have a 99gt auto, k&n filter and flowmasters, what should my car and his lightning be running in the 1/4 , and what kinda mods can have me running lightning fast?(har har !)

Titan 12-17-2002 01:16 AM

supercharger...it's all in the forced induction. Either that, or a hell of a lot of NO2. Wait...put the two together *drool*:D

Of course he killed you. A 99 Gt auto runs what like 15 flat?

Your mods would add little to no increase. Why do people list a K and N filter as a mod? It does nothing! Just replacing the muffler and not the whole piping system would do little as well.

wantapony2001 12-17-2002 11:34 AM

ummm sorry i listed what has been done to the car so you had a better idea of its capablity? moron

1969Mach1 12-17-2002 12:33 PM

Ignore him, yeh I would say Supercharge your car if you want to go lighting fast. ;) I love the Lightings.... don't they run mid-high 13's stock? (I may be really wrong though)

§am.

wantapony2001 12-17-2002 01:19 PM

yeah mach1 i think your right about there 1/4 mile times, sometimes i guess i dont realize how fast that second faster in the 1/4 actually equates to, i couldnt even hang with the guy on the street he was gone already , i think my first real mods will be 4.10's and a shift kit, then after that sometime down the road when i get some cash ill look to supercharge

supeg 12-17-2002 01:35 PM

Why Ignore me?

Why call me a Moron?

You say to give better info on the car. Ok, I just said that those mods do NOTHING to make it different from stock. You MAYBE gained 1 HP. All it did was make it louder.

Don't Lightnings have like 375hp? They are easy to mod Via a Chip to increase boost. Easy to get 450+ with minor upgrades. Which would put it low 13's High 12's with decent tires, which no offence is totally out of your range.

That is like you racing a Minivan with 8 people in it.....

A pulley change increases boost, not a chip. Try and remember, not eveyone knows a K&N does virtually nothing on a stock motor. When I initially listed my mods when I joined this site, I listed my fuel pump, I guess that's about right with listing a K&N, which I also happen to have:D.

Lightnings launch hard and run anywhere from low/mid 13's to low 14's stock. All depends on the weather and altitude.

380, but you gotta remember it's in a sled. most are mid 13 to 14 flat trucks depending on driver and weather.

A chip won't increase boost. You have to swap pulleys

gonna take more than one or two minor upgrades to get a extra 70hp.

Some people race just for fun...sometimes you get lucky. Hell I've raced a 5.0 in my 2.3 LX......and won!!!.......TWICE!!!

OH BTW, a auto 99+ GT will run somewhere in the low-mid 14's.

wantapony2001 12-17-2002 03:52 PM

ok tireburner, u said a stock 99 gt auto will do low-mid 14's , and a lightning can do low 14's as well, so it IS possible to take one with a few minor mods. thats the impression i get . what will i be lookin at after 4.10's and a shift kit(and yes i know they wont add HP) but hopefully that will bump me up and take me out of the hole quicker? also i hear that cold air kits are a waste, yet so many people put them on

That's what I hear as well. I think most people that put them on either believe they will add big hp gains (kinda like stickers do;) ) or purchased them for their looks. I hear they dress up an engine fairly well. And here is my endorsement: if you got the time and money, go with a Vortech with aftercooler. If not, don't worry about it, plenty of other things you can do. But with a supercharger, you'll have the power to back up your bad ***** sounding Flowmaster system! Good luck and have fun:D

"OH BTW, a auto 99+ GT will run somewhere in the low-mid 14's."

HAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHHH

Enough said, you are a total moron if you think that hahahah. What does a Stock manual 99+gt run? 13's?

Yes I meant a Pulley. I owned a GTP so i know that Superchargers need pulley swaps to up the boost, momentary lapse.

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/lightning.htm

Diablo chip, 8 pound pulley, Mac cold air chip.

Add's 84+ hp for under 580.00

That not minor upgrades?

You're basing your quote on an advertisement?

Its says "dyno-tuned" combination... every single vehicle is different... how the heck can you have a "dyno-tuned" combo off-the-shelf? Its a contradiction in terms.

Now maybe if you actually spent the money and the time to have a real "dyno tuned" chip you might pick up some power with the 8lb pulley...

Don't get me started on cold air kits...

With drag radials, there have been some 13.9 time slips around for 99+ manual GTs.

I could easily buy into a mid 14 second auto. Common? No Possible? Yes

High 12's isn't out of range for ANYONE. It's just a matter of how much money he wants to spend.

Oh and by the way Mr. Supeg , there is a guy at my track that has a 2000 GT 5-speed. He has cold air induction, and sticky tires (Hoosier street legal's) and he runs 13.1's @103!! Not too bad for a GT with tires and a CAI huh? (of course he ditches the passenger seat, spare, etc., leaves the line at 5k, and power shifts the thing like a maniac :D )

MidNiteBlu 5.0 12-17-2002 07:16 PM

supeg your a retard. You come here flaming as a newbie quoting magazine numbers. i will gaurantee Tireburner knows ALOT more than you do.

96-98 GT's run like 15's stock because these were the 215hp versions. The 99+ one make 260 with better heads and cams. There are a few people on here that run low 14's all day long on 99+ GT's. Hell Lizard King in a bone stock 5 spd ran high 13's.

Im sure StoplightWarrior will tell you about his 99GT auto.

Again dont come to a site and start running your mouth like your a know it all when your a newbie and just need to sit back and read some threads and see what real people have ran, not what magazines tell you.

The Deuce 12-17-2002 07:19 PM

And by the way, my 97 GT 5speed is a high 14 car, stock. Period.:D

Must have been a Wednesday car;)

supeg 12-17-2002 07:20 PM

I am a Newbie cause I havent spent 2 years on this site? Wow thats funny.

We are not talking about factory Freaks here. 99+gt's Auto run about 15 flat. Manual about Mid 14's. Face it.

No use arguing none of you own 99+gt's cept for that one guy, you guys are doing the SAME thing I am, stating an opinion. But yet I am the NOOB beacuse I have not been here for more then a year?

Fucken morons.

No, you are a newbie because this is your 11th post, and you obviously have little to no experience with the cars you are discussing. We've all seen the signs, so you can call us names and hide behind some secret knowledge, but it'd be easier if you just get over it and quiet down.

And you should be looking at timeslips for the GT's, because I've seen the faster times being quoted here on less than stellar tracks.

Hehe... You're funny my friend...

Lets see, I can't state facts because I don't own a 99+ GT...

Hmmm, I could never have worked on late model modulars...
I could never have dynoed them...
I could never have driven them on the track...

I have PERSONALLY seen several BONE stock 99+ GTs dip into the 13s with stock size drag radials...
Can they ALL be factory freaks?

The key more than anything is DRIVING.... will an average driver hit mid 14s with a stock GT?
Yes.
Can someone who knows what they are doing dip into the 13s? Yes

If you want facts, I would suggest you spend some time looking at the Modular FAQ and less time looking at advertisements.
