AAARGH! I just got beat by a Corvette! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!
I knew it was gonna happen soon. All of a sudden I've been getting MUCH more races than usual: Grand National and Monte Carlo SS two nights ago, '98 Grand Prix last night. I don't yack about beating Monte Carlos and Grand Pris, but I was thinking, something's going on b/c I haven't had even any potential races for the last month or so and I knew that something strong was gonna get up next to me before I swapped these STUPID 2.73s (@#$!) w/ the 3.55s I have in my trunk. Man I'm so pissed.
Anyway, I come to the light and this white Corvette ('95-97) is sitting there so I get into the lane right beside him (left lane) KNOWING that if he played, he would beat me (but I couldn't help myself--what's wrong with me???) I remember forcing myself to get in the lane right beside him and sighing as I new I was committing suicide. We both pulled off kinda slow and then hit it. By the time we hit ~60, he had at least two car lengths on me! I'm so pissed at these stupid gears . Knew this would happen real soon. Anyway, I need some consoling as I'm feeling very bad right now. That kinda makes me even more determined not just for gears, I'm getting more POWER and SOON. Screw the waiting. “…because, no one’s really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.” ---Revenge of the Nerds ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe 8.8" Rear end w/ 2.73:1 gears (sucks!) <---I hate you!! dude don't feel bad!! Just think... he had 50 cubes on you... major traction... major technology and it is also THE FASTEST GM car made... at least at that time now it's the c5 corvettes, but you understand what i'm saying right? Don't worry... you did plenty good just with a little 302, probably gave the owner of the $35000 car a good scare. Wouldn't you be pissed if you spent that much money and a little '79 stang whopped your a$$?? I would!

Thanks MercDude. Yeah, it's stock. I need some heads. Gotta start saving up. I plan on tapping into that "available power" within the next month or so. I still feel bad, but I still couldn't help but race him. (sigh)
The thing is, when I had my 3.27s I beat the same kind of Corvette and it even looked better than the one I raced tonight. Knowing that kinda adds to my pissisity. “…because, no one’s really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.” ---Revenge of the Nerds ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe 8.8" Rear end w/ 2.73:1 gears (sucks!) Yep, the 'Vette. My only loss in my '87GT as well. I was running hot, and I had a couple passengers, but a loss is a loss, and that guy had me by probably a car between 30-70.
Damn, I know it was a late LT-1, like a 96. 330hp, DAMN, just a little too much. |

I also have 355's sitting in my trunk waiting to be installed, Theres a set of Factory Five controll arms with them. Its soo agrivating when you get beat and you have the tools to win sitting in your trunk instead of on your car.

Got it from a place called "U-Pull-It" for $150 out of an '87 Crown Vic Marshal's Dept. police car. U-Pull-It is a place where they scrap metal (vehicles), it's not "officially" a junk yard business, but they basically make extra money on the side by selling the parts off of the cars before crushing them. That's why they can sell parts so cheap. I knew the engine would be in good shape since those police cars are serviced regularly.
Anyway, got it cleaned up (new pistons), replaced intake, carburetor, water pump, distributer, fan, added radiator, headers, and a few other things and I was on my way. “…because, no one’s really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.” ---Revenge of the Nerds ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe 8.8" Rear end w/ 2.73:1 gears (sucks!) I have always been thinking about one, but then I knew the tranny will go, especially if I mix boost w/ a 351.

Ouch!! I have only race GM products. ANY Bow-Tie next to me had better have more than a 150 shot, or a 9# system. I have a '94 Cobra, 3.73 gears(bleeping awesome!!), and a host of other bolt-ons, but this is not the car I race with. I race with my father in law's 89 GT. I love that car. I love the looks that other drivers give me as I leave them sitting at the line.
My favorite race was with this nasty 99 SS. He had a 200hp shot of NOS, and the rest was stock. POOR baby! I was up in the cruise area of Concord, and this guy was talking all the trash about Fords he could come up with. I asked him if he wanted to put his title where his mouth was, seeing as how I could use it as a down payment for the '00 Cobra R. HEH HEH! Well, he didn't like that idea, but we decided to take this little problem on the road.> BIG MISTAKE for him!! I hit my line lock, and warmed up the tires, and staged. He purged his system, warmed up and was ready. The light turned green and I never saw him again that night. I left him crying on the sidewalk where all GM owners belong. HEH HEH! The next night he showed up and pulle dnext to me in the parking lot, but never said a word about Fords. HMM, wonder why? ) 1989 GT 306 Vortech 14# system, Vortech after cooler(air to water), 3.55 gears, and all the goodies that will make 550 rear wheel. Know any 'Vette's that need a good spanking? ------------------ As the light goes out, try to stay in your own lane. |

bigwhitecobra, thanks. I love to hear Ford family victories. Even though I lost to the Corvette that night, it makes me feel good that I can claim Cobras as my brothers.
(As I posted before, I lost to the Vette b/c of these stinking gears, when I had the 3.27s installed, I beat a Corvette that was newer than the one I lost to.) I got some 3.55s in the trunk that I'm about to get installed in February, that (and some tuning)will be all I need to beat a stock pre-'98 Vette in the quarter. “…because, no one’s really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.” ---Revenge of the Nerds ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters 8.8" Rear end w/ 2.73:1 gears (sucks!) In September I ran into a '96 Special edition vette that had a cat back system. He took the jump but I pulled him back in but didn't have the power to finish him and could only stay with my front bumper on his front wheel-if only I could've thrown my 215lb. buddy out of the car . With my new ignition and with the swap to the Carter carb the vette would've definately seen taillights.
Moral of the story: Vettes ain't no sloch (91-up anyways) and they are the general's best effort and are rather pricey when compared to a lowly little 'ol 5.0. ------------------ GT-40 heads (ported, polished, + milled), B303 cam, 1.7rr's, JE pistons, Offy intake, Carter AFB 625cfm carb, Flowtech 1 5/8" shortys, Flowtech X-pipe, MAC Flowpath exhaust, MAC pulleys, 373's, subframes, Eibachs+Tokicos, B+M ripper, FMS Clutch, Zoom Quadrant+cable, 17" CSA Ultra rims, 235/45ZR17 Yokohama AVS S4's, MSD 6A ignition+coil, FMS 9mm wires, Carbed, Naturally Aspirated, and Nasty! |

Fox sorry to hear about your luck. My brother has a stock '95C4, he loves to brag about it. In the spring when I bring my 5.0 out, he will have nothing to brag about any more. When I stomp him I will let you know to cherr you up.

I guess I should've put a date on the title of this thread. The title makes it seem lik it happened a few minutes ago. It happened about 2.5 - 3 weeks ago.
Anyway, the differences between his car and mine in that race were my gears (2.73s w/ NO POSI-TRACTION) and bad breathing. I already beat a newer Corvette (not C5, just newer than the '94-95 C4 that beat me) when I had the 3.27s (before they broke ). So I'm pretty much confident that I am serious competition for almost any stock Corvette. Now don't get beat '93GT “…because, no one’s really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.”---Revenge of the Nerds ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters 8.8" Rear end w/ 2.73:1 gears (sucks!)
