Again, new track times.
I went out for Ubly Dragways opening day and got to make the first pass of the year on the track. Pretty cool.
I trailered my car for the first time in anticipation of breaking my T-5. But it held just fine. Not a grind, or missed gear, or anything. First run was an easy launch, no powershift, warm the car up kinda run. I went 12.3 @ 110. Next I dropped the clutch at around 4000 RPM, yanked both tires, powershifted down the track, and ran 12.0 @ 112.xx I made one more motor run and spun a little too much on the starting line, and went 12.1 @ 112. Next I put the bottle in. Launching on the hose with ET Streets is freakin' awesome! I pulled the tires, but the whole way down the track it did not feel right. My fuel pressure AGAIN was only at 70 psi. I get my slip at the booth to read 11.2 @ 120 mph. 5 mph shy of what it normally runs. I change my melted plugs and crank up the fuel pressure hoping to get that 10 second slip. I melted another set. Back to the drawing board.

If I was you get a wet Setup On there........ Might be cheaper on the Plugs

what pump/injectors are you running? Are you maxing them out? I agree, a wet set-up would be easier. But a fogger would be even better.

Sounds like it might be time for an aftermarket fuel system. Are you still running the stock feed, return lines and stock rails? How much are you spraying when you're melting plugs and what kind of gas are you using? Might want to dump some 110 in it for save measure. ttyl

For my fuel system I have an in-tank 255 lph pump, all stock lines and rails, 30 lb injectors, and a Kirban regulator. I am running Sunoco 94 for gas, and spraying with only 10 degrees of ignition advance. My fuel pressure hits 100 psi on the up-shifts, but drops when at WOT. I thought the stock lines and rails were good for 600 horsepower or so, and I know I am nowhere near there. Funny thing is that I am burning plugs WORSE now with the 30's instead of the 24's. I can only figure it has something to do with volume vs. pressure. Maybe the 255 pump can't keep 30 pound injectors fed at 90-100 psi? If this is true then I may have the same problems with a wet kit. |

Damn those are good times.... but yeah your MPH is missing, seems like you would have had a 10sec pass for sure otherwise!
What kind of 60's were u pulling this time on the juice? Im surprized it hooks right off the line! And thats a stock T-5 in there? **** Who said they were weak? hahaha. I wonder what keeps melting plugs, it must being going lean I assume. Do you have the 255 or the 255 forced induction. Yeah they are rated the same but the 255FI flows way more fuel. Skyler

I've heard that the stock lines and rails are good around 500 hp. I've also heard the 255 pumps *may* not be a good choice with the stock lines since the pump pushes more volume then the lines can support. You may want to think about stepping up to a -8 feed -6 return and use a bosh, sx, areomotive ect..(external pump) Seems obvious you have a problem in the fuel system somewhere and I don't see any place you can better it with the parts you have. You're spraying 150 right? Sounds like you're pretty lucky you haven't squirted any head gaskets! Also when I used to spray 150 making full passes I would dump 5 gallons of 110 in just to be safe. Might want to put some 110 in and see if that helps? |

I might be about 500 crank horsepower on the spray, so maybe the lines are an issue. What is funny is that I was trapping 125 mph at Ubly with the 24lb injectors before the 30's. Maybe it's just a fuel filter. That would suck to have to spend a grand on a fuel system! Sky, I have the standard BBK 255 pump, made by Walbro. The race gas is good insurance, but I don't think I should really need it. No? Not to mention it killing my O2 sensors. I have 2 dead ones sitting in my garage from Murrays that failed around 2 months after warranty.

Skyler, My 60 Ft times on the spray were 1.62. What is weird is that both nitrous runs were 1.62's, and the first pass I yaned the tires about 3 or 4 inches off the ground, and the second pass they saw no air at all.
It is a T-5 too. It is from D&D, but it still is a glass T-5. I am going to sell it, along with the AOD in my garage, and buy a Tremec. |

I know this isn't directly related to your post exgm, but I'm wondering about the t5. I've got a 91 in my car, and I'm always worried about it, granted I don't run near what you do, maybe if I juice it I'm close to your motor runs maybe. What did D&D do to your T5? Or where should I look to get one rebuilt? or find a deal on a good one?

exgmguy, check your filter first!
If you need to go to a bigger fuel line, you could try what I have. I run a # 8 for a feed, and use the factory feed as the return. For the -8 fitting to fit on the stock fuel rail, there's a block on the front of the fuel rail near where the stock fuel line comes in where you can drill & tap for the fitting. Mine works with my 190 in tank pump & 36 lb inj's (remember, I always run race fuel at the track). Let me know if you are interested in a Tremec 3550, as I may be selling mine with the scattershield. I have a friend that's selling his TKO that I may want to get....

Hey exgm, hows the track at Ubly this year? I'm considering visiting a friend that says he's near that track (he runs a new camaro that's supposed to go 12.8's motor). |

Great times..10's are just around the corner for sure.
Can't wait till I get the juice hooked up on mine, hell at this point I can't wait till I get my car back together! I just bought a 255 HI PRESSURE pump I was told this is great for N2O or Blower set-ups it puts more pressure to make sure it will feed it in the high rpms or high demand, guess it would be like a 190lph with a T-Rex. I only had a 155lph pump last year and was going lean up top but still pulled 115mph, hoping with fuel this year to be 117mph plus and 130 on the juice? I want to go 11.40's on motor with the rear and 10.40 or lower on the juice. What gear to you run, and what rpm do you trap with and with out the N2O? Good Luck, Rick

I run a 3.73 gar with the 28" tires. I was running out of motor on the hose when I had my GT-40 intake so I switched to a 28" tire, Now that I have the holley I need 4.10's
I am not sure what R's I am trapping at I think as 4 grand on motor, and maybe 4800 or so on the spray. It is pretty bad that a 150 shot gains only 8 mph for me and 8 tenths. I think if the fuel was right I should be back at my 125 mph trap, and maybe 10.8-10.9's. |

No, in 4th. I put my numbers in the analyzer and it comes up about 5000 RPM on motor, and 5500 on spray. I never really paid attention to the finish line RPM.
I am usually just glad I hit every gear. |

"I agree, a wet set-up would be easier. But a fogger would be even better." It was mentioned in this thread that you would be better of with a wet system or a fogger, are you running a dry shot at that HP level (150) ? Or is it a wet system?
