Default Another Dead Street Racer In MD

Saturday night in Montgomery County, MD 2 racers got into it, one lost control, his passenger was killed. Guess the driver is feeling proud about it now, huh?

wonder what the conditions where? It's hard to loose control in a straight line on a deserted country road.

That sucks. I don't like street racing as much as i use to. take it to the track. Much safer.

Dry, clear weather, 4 wide lanes of divided straightaway road in semi-residential area. Makes no difference the of kind of road, it's still a stupid thing to do.

There are lots of things that are fun until someone gets hurt or killed.

Sad,

Read the story, and you guessed it:

Quote:
Witnesses told police that two 2002 Mitsubishi Lancers, one yellow and one black, were traveling on Georgia Avenue before turning west onto Norbeck Road about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
I own a Lancer. Its a great little car for hopping around town.
One thing it is NOT, is a street terror.

Underpowered, small\narrow tires, and not exactly "at home" in the high speed arena. (If it even makes it to high speeds...)

The car is in no way a Lancer EVO by any stretch of the imagination.

I can easily see my Lancer getting out of shape over 100 mph if I did anything stupid.

Its sad, and its stupid.... nothing else you can really say.

It is very sad but look at those cars. Like Hammer said those are not built to race they are commuter cars. Street Racing if done right is no more risky than track racing IMO. Done right to me would be making sure the streets are clear and having spotters etc.

Unfortuanetely not many people do it this way (especially ricers) That is why San Diego passed a law saying its a misdeamenor to even be a SPECTATOR at a street race.

I wish all the media and city council people would get thier heads out of thier a**es and realize the main problem is san diego does not have a drag strip. Sure we have qualcomm which is only an 1/8 mile but its a parking lot turned into a drag strip so traction SUCKS.

Also Carlsbad is good distance for a weekend trip every now and then but too far away to the liking of most people (especially young people) that like to go after work or whatever.

These are all just my opinions though.

C-bad isn't even open during the week from what I understand. I don't know where the street racing is, but carlsbad is 40 miles from my house, and Mission Valley is 60. So, unless you live in El Cajon or "The tony suburb" of Santee, I don't see how it could possibly be that far.

But its all relative. The next closest track for me is LACR and that's almost twice as far.
