Bad Idea I know...
Well I got all the switches working for my N20. So I took it out and tried it. It works great. The 80 is a NICE kick in the *** , it really hauls *** .
I realized after using it several times, I am running about 18 degree of timing with 87 octane gas. But I heard no detonation? What was your total timing? What kind of distributor are you running? I have a mallory comp 9000 and adjusting the total timing is a piece of cake. I probably wouldn't run 87 octane either.

whats the comp ratio? be careful with that dude, it's cheap insurance to run 104, or with a good disributor, run 92-93 and back that timing off.

Marty- Thanks, what year is your car? You can still do some stuff under warrenty.
I know, bad idea, but this car refuses to ever detonate. I am gonna pull the plugs just to see what they look like. I have a stock distributors. Its easy to changea, I just bought a MSD timing control too. So I will do that for sure next time. Sounds awesome Skyler. Your car is mean w/out the juice, can't imagine it now . I can't wait till I get N2O, I'm still kicking around the idea of 80/100/125 or 150......either way, I have another year to do my homework! When are you taking it to the track to see how much a$$ it hauls now ?

Reading plugs is a lot harder on fuel injected engines. You need to shut the engine down at full throttle(hope your car stops!) and then pull the plugs. If it idles at all the color won't be accurate. Your engine sounds good though. I'd kill to have a car like yours!

Hey sky, to read your plugs, run it with N2O and then IMEDIATELY shut it down and pull every plug. It isn't hard to read them, you will easily be able to tell if you are running lean/have detonation .Dont just look at one or two. You can't hear detonation but how loud is it in that beast of yours? If you want to keep your engine, follow the reccomendations, 92 octane, back off your timing and dont hit it till 3000 rpms. One step colder plugs wouldn't hurt either.
Don't take chances with N2O...If you decide to go with a larger shot, make sure your clutch is up to it also! ------------------ My Mustang 91 LX Conv. 52,000 orig mi. Sky, you got to run 94 octane or more. It's cheap insurance.

Yeah, I won't do that again. Hmm, sounds like a ***** to pull the car over on the side of the road after running the nos, and pull 8 plugs on a burning hot engine.
Time to retard the timing, and run good fuel. marty- From what I have seen on the new stangs I would go with gears, H pipe, exhaust, pulleys, and a timing adjuster.
I think Mustang92 on here has an awesome running combo. He has just a few boltons on his 99GT and its running 12.9's. 69fast- Definatly, I am always up for the track. When you get back to the states all us local guys will have to head out again. Sky, I checked my plugs finally after the track. I would just pull a couple easy ones and I assumed everything was ok. But to my suprise I had 3 that no longer had tips on them.
It seems my lower intake gaskets started leaking (never retorqued the lower) and started pulling oil in from the lifter valley. Oil can make 104 act like 86 octane in a flash. I have never heard a single rattle. Just be careful, because once you make a mistake with the hose, it is usually an expensive one. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 11.5 @ 120 (9/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer See my car at: www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?179 |
