Default Banged out an '03 Cobra with mods.

I was on the Long Island Expressway yesterday in my Civic and a Red Cobra pulls up next to me. I got even with him and started messing with him. He finally had enough and punched it. I punched it immediately after and almost immediately pulled him like a total animal up till 130 when I let off and he came flying by. If we went any faster he would've caught up I bet but I was a good 7 cars in front of him when I let off. I have a 92 Civic hatchback. It weighs 2,050 lbs and is putting out 227 wheel horsepower which is about 285 Flywheel hp. Think of a 4,100 lb car with 570HP and you got something equal in Power to weight as me. I love the Cobra though, just not my cup of tea

I guess its possible but it seems like he would rape you from a roll if he isnt stock.

What engine did you put in your Honda. The integra GSR?

Good kill,

I have a built B20 Block with an Integra Type R head. I'm running Toda Spec c cams and Hondata. My redline is 9600. It's an N/A setup and it's about maxed out. I ran an 11.76@119 on slicks. I know the cobra had an exhaust because I heard it. My friend has a stock 03 Cobra. I have Intake header and exhaust with a Skunk2 Intake manifold.

Nice set-up .............I used to have a CRX that I built up a little bit.

With 119mph trap speed you will beat most street cars.

All the analyzers say you would trap 112 but I guess 119 would be possible if you are turning 9600 rpm.

If an all motor 4 banger pulls on a 4.6L DOHC engine with a blower on it.

Its a phuckin excellent kill.

Thumbs up Nice Kill

I have an '03 Cobra and I say congrats. If you win, you win. As long as you win fairly (no fly-by, etc.).

It's likely you ran an '03 that had cat backs only, since most '03 owners install just that...cat backs don't void the warranty. Everyone's paranoid of voiding the warranty...the motor's really durable but it costs $13k to replace.

Then you get bored and say screw it all and start modding

That said, watch out, cause it takes less than $1800 to get an '03 Cobra running 11s.

I have my back seat taken out and the A/c system because it was taking to long to find all the pieces and giving us alot of trouble.

I love the Cobra.....It's my new favorite Mustang. I always wanted a 87-93. I even like the 86 alot too. I know the potentil of the new Cobra's. I drive a Honda now but I buy Muscle Mustangs and fast Fords Mag every Month almost. Those guys took a bone stock 03 Cobra and gave it an exhaust, X pipe and a filter and it ran 11's. Lol....the day I got the Civic I ran a 17.2@79 with the stock motor. That stock motor is now in my room, apart and waiting for forged pistons so I can reassemble it and make my own Turbo kit. I want to put it into a CRX and make a nice 13 or 14 second beater for less than $1000 plus MANY hours of my labor. In all fairness, I have been beaten by Mustangs countless times. Even in my cars current state. At E town there are some Mustangs running Carb's that tottally abuse me. I like walking around the pits looking at cars that you can't really tell are that fats and then lose. Losing is a part of life and this sport to me. I really want the new C6 when it comes out...Don't have enough money.. While we are on the subject, my dream car is the Benz CL65 AMG. It's a CL Benz with a 6.0 liter twin turbo V12 pumping 612 HP and 730 something Lb Ft.

Is it possible to take the mods off and bring it back to the dealer if a problem arises?. I wouldn't be able to resist some boost upgrades at least. Whether with a pulley or an Ecu...if that's do-able. LOL...My older brother had a 97 Full Size Chevy pickup with a 350 and a 5 speed. He put a 150 shot in it an blew the intake manifold off. The next day we took the Nitrous off and threw the "plastic" intake manifold in the garbage and said it fell out on the highway and way melted. The dealer believed him and fixed the truck..He still had a little dent on his hood from the explosion...Lesson learned.

91GTturbo- I would bet money that the Honda guy doesnt have 34K in his car which is the price of a new Cobra.

Dan, good question. You can remove the mods but if the warranty claim is major, e.g., blown motor, Ford sends out an inspector. The inspector looks for signs of modding.

The first thing they look for is evidence a chip was installed. Ford uses a special coating on the chip connectors, and if that's removed, the the warranty is history.

Next they look for signs of removing the pulley(s). Maybe there are shiny spots on the bolt heads. Maybe a scratch from a tool.

Most of all, they look for signs of burnouts, which they will claim as "vehicle abuse". They compare tread depth against the mileage of the vehicle (yeah, really!). They also look under the rear fenders for shreds of rubber. Again, they will use this as a reason to void the warranty.

2 months ago I said h*ll with it all and started modding...I have a special dealer hookup in case something goes south

I'd be willing to bet more money the honda driver doesn't have a warranty, cold AC, or leather seats (front & rear). We can go on like this forever, it all comes down to personal preference, nuff said .

Oh, and $34K might have been the price when the first came out, but the local dealership tried to sell me one for $29.5. I see people all the time on the net talking about getting them for under $30, so it's not an isolated incident. Any the money excuse gets old, next time save it for a newbie. If it were all about going fast and nothing else, everyone would be in a pinto with a stroked windsor under the hood.

"next time save it for a newbie"

How about something we can both agree on.

Default 227 rwhp/2050?

To get 227 rwhp/ 2050 curb wt. is impressive. I just want to see it demonstraighted at the track with real numbers.

There are quite a few motorswapped Hondas running around out there. Especially out here in California. Lots of hatchs with B16's and B18's etc. I want to do something like that someday.

Great kill, vtechatch. I assume you put a lot of hours of sweat and labor into that car. Gotta feel great mashing up a '03.
