Those are hard facts

I will concentrate on just the Fbodies because it's what I know but let me start off by saying that I have yet to see a stock Cobra that does anything less than 13.6 without a great driver. I've been to the track a few times and no Cobras have done better than 14.0 but I know they can do better cause Popular mechanics got one to do 13.62 or thereabouts...but then again their drivers are "expert drivers" and to balance it out...they got a "stock" LS1 formula to do 13.15 and a stock SS to do 13.42 so with that in mind

Dude,

The Z28 and the SS have the same engine :the LS1...there are no differences in the engine. The horsepower rating on these engines is given by GM as "310" for the Z28 and "325" for the SS. This is counting that the 2000+ model year cars have the LS6 intake (the intake that comes on the ZO6 corvette) which lets them breath better. My car which does NOT have the LS6 intake standard dynoed at 286.4 at the wheels stock which puts it at about 337.95hp at the engine. GM has underrated the Fbody LS1s for two reasons:

1. They don't want Corvette owners to think they've dropped 50 large on a car with the same engine as one that costs half that much (Corvette is the flagship)

2. Insurance purposes...it is much easier to sell these cars to their intended market (20-30 yr olds) when insurance is not as high as the Corvette.

This is not a flame. You are Mustang guys and there is no reason you should know specifics about the engines on Camaros/Firebirds so I am not flaming you for your numbers...just correcting you on your information.

cilvrwing:

Which ever one you get...you can't go wrong...stock both these cars are good performers and there are tons of performance parts out there for both marques, I do offer this advice:

If you go with the Fbody (LS1) go with an SS or a Firehawk, they are more expensive but come with more performance toys stock(which means they are fully warrantied).

If you go with the Mustang...go with the Cobra. Again, it is more expensive but you get an engine upgrade to 320hp and it is more prestigious than just another GT.

that's my take.

GT-Hunter-

Before you go shootin off, those were actual dyno results I have seen personally. The same guy that dynoes my car had a gm dyno day a while back, and those were 2 cars that I picked. The SS had SLP headers and exhaust, the Z did not. From my understanding, the SS's were offered that option....so don't tell me I don't know my specifics, because I think I do....you know..."know thy enemy"?? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

I was referring to the new Cobra, it has been tested, and does run 105's

Shouldn't the SS run better in the ¼ because of the ram air...or is that a publicity hoax too like the hp rating??

No flame...just some bumping and rubbing http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

My opinion...I'm not too impressed. I have a few buddies that are big on the import seen and did nothing but brag about how these cars would run mid to low 13's stock. Well they come out and barely get into the low 14's at 94 MPH. Then turns out that the transmissions in them are a far cry from the Japan version and don't hold up well to added power. So now even if you do some of the basic turbo upgrades the tranny can't handle the power. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone comes out with a good sucessor of the Eclipse but it sure isn't the WRX. That's my take on it.

Actually, i have a 5.0 magazine, forgot which issue, dynoed the cobra, to find out it was overrated, this was a disapointment, but just slightly, still a badazz car, and i have seen a 01 ss camaro go 13.4 stock, it took the guy lots of practice, he started out running 14.0's lol, but actually improved that much, he might have had stickier tires, but it was stock.

Either way you cant go wrong.. If you can afford it get a Cobra over a GT (i dont car for the tacked on hood scoop).. And if you go chevy get a SS over a Z28.. the Z IMO looks sorta plain and you can pick up a 2001 SS (which has a lot of engine upgrades over a 2k) for a great price ~ ive seen them go for $25k. Its really hard to find a discount on a Cobra.. You can see my dyno numbers at the bottom.. thats with about $200 in performance mods and if you add in the %15-18% drivetrain loss that means im making over 370hp at the flywheel.. fbods are way underrated by GM.. as long as you by good old rear-wheel-drive V8 you cant go wrong http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
