The Z28 is quite a bit faster.

If you buy a 2001 Ford GT, it will have about 260hp..I think that the Camero's are pushing around 300. Then the Cobra SVT is pushing 320hp! and only costs about 26,000...

I drove a 00 SS the other day for the hell of it and wasn't impressed. Get the cobra or buy a GT and spend the extra $ on mods. I bought a used 00 GT (4k miles) with every option for 18k, put on 1k worth of bolt ons and it runs strong. I ran 14.2 before any mods, I'm expecting high 13's next time at the track. You could just go ahead and pay 30k for an SS though, they arent bad, I just personally didnt find it fun to drive. Just my 2 cents.

So I'm 2-1 against LS1s. Yeah, I can hang with them still. |
my frens 2001 gt supercharged auto....is running 13.8 in 1/4 mile...what u guys think of this???
|
You know what I think of that..I think something is wrong. Arent those cars suppost to be low 14's high 13's stock..but then again thats w/a 5-speed..But it should still be faster than that.

Thats also in the Hot Texas heat probably.
There was a guy with a silver 2000 GT that had NO power adders, just gears, exhaust, a few suspension pieces, Timing adjuster, Throttle Body, and pullies running on an average of 13.2 at 101 MPH. His highest speed was 104, lowest was 99. Fastest time was 12.98, slowest was 13.5. That was in Rockingham at the MOd Motor Shoot out. What is strange though, is there was a few 99+GT's that were running mid to high 13's with BLowers. I think they were Autos though. There was this awesome Cobra that had a 100% stock block but just a blower running 18 lbs of boost, well thats what the announcer said. He was clocking High 9's with a 140 something MPH. I'm not sure if he had the stock gears in it, didnt get a chance to find him and talk to him. T |

Guess I didn't update my sig as I did on other boards.

I would of sworn that the guy in the silver GT dipped into the high 12's on a run. He bowed out early because he couldnt run consistantly enough. I thought the wagon out there was interesting.
I'm trying to remember. It was so damn hot Sunday out there that I was probably seeing things. Every time I go to Rockingham drag strip I get sunburnt big time. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif I was kinda disapointed that the power adder 2V were running like they were. Seemed like the NA 2V were running just as fast, if not faster. ------------------ 64 1/2 "D" code Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, Mallory duel point. I agree it was hot out there. I was in pain for my 11 hour ride back home! Between qualifying and eliminations my best pass was a 13.03. I had a 12.96 pass but that was during time trials on Sunday. The Silver GT was running DR's most of the day on Sunday till his buddy let him run his ET street's. That got his times down in the 13.2 range but never went any quicker.
The 2v PA class was a little of a disappointment to me as well at least the ET's were. Last year it was won with a car in the 10.8 range. For next year I may be running the power adder class in which case I plan on winning again! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif |
wudyall think of the new wrx subaru???

I will concentrate on just the Fbodies because it's what I know but let me start off by saying that I have yet to see a stock Cobra that does anything less than 13.6 without a great driver. I've been to the track a few times and no Cobras have done better than 14.0 but I know they can do better cause Popular mechanics got one to do 13.62 or thereabouts...but then again their drivers are "expert drivers" and to balance it out...they got a "stock" LS1 formula to do 13.15 and a stock SS to do 13.42 so with that in mind Dude, The Z28 and the SS have the same engine :the LS1...there are no differences in the engine. The horsepower rating on these engines is given by GM as "310" for the Z28 and "325" for the SS. This is counting that the 2000+ model year cars have the LS6 intake (the intake that comes on the ZO6 corvette) which lets them breath better. My car which does NOT have the LS6 intake standard dynoed at 286.4 at the wheels stock which puts it at about 337.95hp at the engine. GM has underrated the Fbody LS1s for two reasons: 1. They don't want Corvette owners to think they've dropped 50 large on a car with the same engine as one that costs half that much (Corvette is the flagship) 2. Insurance purposes...it is much easier to sell these cars to their intended market (20-30 yr olds) when insurance is not as high as the Corvette. This is not a flame. You are Mustang guys and there is no reason you should know specifics about the engines on Camaros/Firebirds so I am not flaming you for your numbers...just correcting you on your information. cilvrwing: Which ever one you get...you can't go wrong...stock both these cars are good performers and there are tons of performance parts out there for both marques, I do offer this advice: If you go with the Fbody (LS1) go with an SS or a Firehawk, they are more expensive but come with more performance toys stock(which means they are fully warrantied). If you go with the Mustang...go with the Cobra. Again, it is more expensive but you get an engine upgrade to 320hp and it is more prestigious than just another GT. that's my take. ------------------ 1999 Z28 M6 Arctic White, MTI-Clear Lid w/K&N, B&B Triflo, BMR STB, Pro 5.0 Power Tower, 160 Powerstat, HPP3, TB Coolant bypass, Ported MAF, Taylor 409 wires(10.4 mm), NGK TR-55s, Redline Synthetic Lubricants, K&N oil filter, BEST E.T. 13.27 @ 106.39 (street tires) [This message has been edited by gt-hunter (edited 07-03-2001).] |

GT-Hunter-
Before you go shootin off, those were actual dyno results I have seen personally. The same guy that dynoes my car had a gm dyno day a while back, and those were 2 cars that I picked. The SS had SLP headers and exhaust, the Z did not. From my understanding, the SS's were offered that option....so don't tell me I don't know my specifics, because I think I do....you know..."know thy enemy"?? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif I was referring to the new Cobra, it has been tested, and does run 105's Shouldn't the SS run better in the ¼ because of the ram air...or is that a publicity hoax too like the hp rating?? Actually, i have a 5.0 magazine, forgot which issue, dynoed the cobra, to find out it was overrated, this was a disapointment, but just slightly, still a badazz car, and i have seen a 01 ss camaro go 13.4 stock, it took the guy lots of practice, he started out running 14.0's lol, but actually improved that much, he might have had stickier tires, but it was stock.

Either way you cant go wrong.. If you can afford it get a Cobra over a GT (i dont car for the tacked on hood scoop).. And if you go chevy get a SS over a Z28.. the Z IMO looks sorta plain and you can pick up a 2001 SS (which has a lot of engine upgrades over a 2k) for a great price ~ ive seen them go for $25k. Its really hard to find a discount on a Cobra.. You can see my dyno numbers at the bottom.. thats with about $200 in performance mods and if you add in the %15-18% drivetrain loss that means im making over 370hp at the flywheel.. fbods are way underrated by GM.. as long as you by good old rear-wheel-drive V8 you cant go wrong http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
