Post New "pathetic" track times after 3.73's !!HELP!!

Last night I went to the track it was really humid outside. I seen one of the guys that I work with as soon as I pulled through the gate I went to talk to him for a minute and he had out his altitude gauge and it said that the altitude was at "6400ft"

My first run I had 20 lbs of air in my Nittos and I spun out really bad all the way through third and ran a 16.4 @90mph

My second run I launch at a lower rpm and I ran a 15.9 @89.

By this time I was pissed and dropped the air pressure down to about 14 lbs and launched at idle started spinning at the top of 1st gear spunn all the way through second and chirped third and ran a 15.4 @90

With 3.73's with 2.73's
60ft 2.17 2.14
1/8 9.81 @73 9.63 @72
1/4 15.4 @90 15.2 @89

With the 2.73's I had no problems launching and did not spinn in 2nd.

With the 3.73's I spinn like crazy through 1st 2nd and part of third and run 2 tenths slower.

I used to be a big nitto fan but not anymore these tires cant hold my car for nothin and I was cookin the hell out of them and running them at 14 lbs.

I guess that I need some upper and lower control arms and some sub frame connectors and maybe with that I will be able to hold some traction.

The worst part of it is my girlfriend is pissed that I spent all that cash and my car runs slower

90 mph trap speed? That is pretty rough. Even for a convertible. What was the weather like when you ran with the 2.73's? I might think about trying a different track if you were blazing Nitto's and running 15's. How do they hook on the street?

My car was doing 89mph with the 2.73's on a hot dry day
It went 90 with the 3.73's the weather was rainy we had several delays and the altitude was at 6400ft.

It was really embarrassing I could not hook for nothing I had to give it half gas off the line and launch at idle and spun 1st 2nd and part of third there is no doubt that my car is way more powerfull than it was.

The weather was about as bad as it can possibly get.

What mods do I need to get next to help my car hook up???????????????????????????????????????????

You need drag springs and struts. Also find a calculator to correct for the altitude. I bet you were running around 98-99mph corrected. Which is damn good.

Two words: SUBFRAME CONNECTORS, especially with the drop-top, I'm surprized that you don't have severe wheelhop. When I got my 8.8 with 373's (stock 82 motor) I tried racing a 96 GT and off the line I wheelhopped so bad that I broke the main vacuum line that goes from the vacuum tree to the intake manifold (sounded like a gunshot). I had my subframes welded in two days later and now I can't even make it wheel hop.

Do the subframes now, it will make a night and day difference, your 60 foot times will drop substantially, that and the 373's take a little practice.

Your sea level time would be 14.2@97mph, that's actually pretty good, get that 60' down and that's a 13 at sea level.

What kind of burnout are you doing? What size Nittos are you running? Do you want a "low rider" or a drag car? How is your car running? You NEED subframe connectors (welded in type) and springs, struts, shocks, upper and lower arms. If you can give us more info, someone on this site should be able to help.

yea, don't sweat it. It's probably more the track than your nittos. 14psi is kind of low for a radial. your tire will start to only ride on the outer edges when the psi gets to low. at lacr I ran a 14.36@98mph. it was like 7000ft 100deg and windy, I went to bakersfield and ran a 13.8@103. still hot but less elevation. Get to a better track or wait till winter and watch your times fall
also the gears will take awhile to get used too!

I am dumping the clutch in 2nd gear and smoking the hell out of them.

I think I would rather have a drag car I just got a really good on the drop springs

My car is running great.

what sub frame connectors would you reccomend
I am a good welder so thats not a problem.

Damn I totaly forgot to mention that when my sisters boyfriend was looking under my car he goes "Damn that is the thickest sway bar I have ever seen" He said that that is not a stock swaybar.

He runs a steeda shop so he should know. "I think"

Maybe removinf the sway bar would help

What track is at 6400 ft? That is higher than Denver. Reguardless of suspension there is no way in hell that you should be blazing Nitto's through 3rd gear and only trapping 90 mph. How do they hook on the street?

my BFG's like just a small burnout. No smokeshow. It is funny to watch my track video. I do a small burnout while the "big tire" car next to me does a John Force special. Then I motor past them the whole way down the track!

Dumping the clutch in 2nd gear, isn't that pretty hardcore? Why not 1st? I have 3:55's and I would think dumping it in 2nd would fry the clutch faster.

The actual elevation of the track is 3000ft.
It is the conditions that make it equivalent to 6400.

The best that I have ever seen the track is 3600ft the worst is 6400ft.

It was really just a bad night to race i guess.

The nittos hooked great with the 2.73's but with the 3.73's Ihave to give it half gas in first and spin half of second and chirp third.

I think that I was spinning off about 8 tenths.

I really don think that the trap speed has anything to do with burning out considering my brother runs 14.30's @92mph

Well looks like they beat me too it, i was gonna say subframe connectors, definately get them welded, also, dont convrtibles have a thicker swaybar? well if you get the sub connectors, pull that bar (front), watch your traction change like night and day! let us know how it goes.

If you like handling though, go ahead and leave it on, cuz that vert will probaly handle like crap, but i think mine is fine without it.

Oh, I see. The weather "figured in" gave a 6400 ft reading. I get it. That would be a pretty cool instrument to have.

Adding new lower control arms will make a world of difference, along with the welded subframes, and no sway bar. As mentioned earlier.

A second gear burnout lets the tires spin faster, resulting in a shorter burnout. You don't heat the engine up before your run as much this way. For whoever that was asking....

When you order the subs, make sure they are made for convertibles.. I ordered some and the first line on the instructions said(in bold letters) "Will NOT fit convertibles" I had to send the CEs back and order some kenny browns. But that was years ago.. Heck, you might be able to have some made locally.

I think that my fuel pump may be going out and that is why my car feels slower than when I bought it.

I dont know I could be wrong but that is something that I am going to check into.

There is something that is just not right the car does not pull like it used to I think that the lower gears keeping the rpm's up more in the higher range is too much for the weakening 13 year old fuel pump.

I am going to order a new fuel pump and get rid of my bosch 4 prong platinum plugs weld in some sub-frames and then take her back to the track

Oh really smart guy ther is a guy here that runs in the 10's @106 mph is he having power problems too????

Arent you the one that drives a toyota solara you would have been damn lucky to break out of the 17's in 6000ft of altitude

Do me a favor go to the decal shop were all of you ricers hang out and make yourself a decal that says "power problem" for your car cause I would absolutely SMOKE you.
