Famoso results - disapointing - next run Carlsbad 8/11?
I went there with the new DRs expecting 13.5's - apparently I need some help with launch technique, shifting. Also I should have taken a timing light and a couple tools to monkey with timing and fuel pressure. Although I did win 4 out of the 5 times I ran lost once to a heavily modded late '60's 'stang, beat another mildly modded late '60's 'stang, Brett in his '99 WS6 T/A twice, and a '70's Camaro.
I did manage to pull off one 2.0 and one 2.1 60 ft times but the others were right where I was with my Yokohamas - 2.2 - 2.3. I didn't spin at all in second, where I usually spin for about a second on the Yokohamas. My trap speed was down around 100 MPH, where last time I was trapping 102 - 103. My best ET was 13.76 - not even a full tenth better than last time even though I knocked two tenths off my 60 ft on that run. I met a guy there who had the exact same engine I've got in his car - heads, cam, intake, injectors - with the exception of milled heads with 10:1 compression. He's got a Lentech auto and ran a 13.4. So I'm planning on going to Carlsbad Saturday August 11. If any of you want to go I could use some help on launch technique (including how to launch when you can barely hear the engine through the helmet), shift points, etc. ------------------ 93 GT, CCM long block, GT40P heads, Crane 2031, 1.7 RR's, Moroso cold air, 73mm Vortech, 65mm TB, Cobra intake, 24# injectors, MSD 6AL, MAC GT40P headers, 2-1/2" BBK H-pipe (w/cats), Flowmasters, 3.55s, B&M Ripper shifter, Black Magic fan, Groundpounder LCA's, Comp subs 13.817@102.45 - 1/4 |

did it seem hotter than the last time or more humid? That would explain the lower trap speed. did you get the tires real hot in the burnout box? I heard the nittos like to be real warm to hook. I'm sure you'll do better at carlsbad. it should start to cool down in bakersfield by the end of sept-oct. then you'll see your times really come down! if you where trapping 2mph less and still getting the same et's thats not to bad, imo.

I will bet you can trap 104-105 at carlsbad. You just gotta get traction.
I really don't see many people getting good results with drag radials. I think its worth the investment in a slick or ET street. I can go the 18th but not the 11th. Sky's right. Drag radials are marginal on the street, and at the track, they're even worse. Go with some M/T ET Streets or some form of slick.
I can't wait til I get my Eibach drag springs in, and I'm saving for a set of M/T ET Streets for my 10 hole rims. Hopefully it'll get out of the hole a lot better that way. |

My daughter is in town over the 11th and she wants to go racing so I'm definitely going that weekend. If we can't hook up then we definitely need to hook up on opening day at Fontana - I'm pretty sure it's September 8.

Withamc - Hey man this is Dave with the blue stang from Bak. We had a lot of fun friday comparing cars and etc... I forgot my tools also so I couldn't mess with the FP or timming.. BUT I did try lowering the FP like you said when I got home and its seemed to run quite a bit stronger at 36 psi than it did with 40... It was good meeting you guys and don't forget about Buttonwillow on Aug. 25th.. Should be a good time and maybe then we can compare runs a little easier with not so many people there... Later, Dave

Running drag radials at Carlsbad is like spinning peeled grapes on snot. Bakersfield is a much better track despite the weather conditions. Are you guys going to go to Fontana when it opens in early/mid September?
I also hit a 2.0 60ft at Famoso but I didnt lower my tire pressure at all. I think your supposed to drop a few pounds when your at the track and pump em back up when you leave. ------------------ 95GT B303 cam, 1.7 rockers, 65mm TB, milled heads, 355's K&N, BBK Longtubes, Flowmaster cat back, pulleys, msd coil, 9mm wires, Tremec 3550, Pro5.0 shifter,10.5 Motorsport clutch, FMS aluminum driveshaft, weld in subframe connectors |
