Default New Eclipse, Old Chevelle, and ME!

I have 3 questions for ya.....well....3 different topics I guess....

First: '97 Eclipse, auto, 2.0l DOHC no turbo, stock. I will annhilate him when my fastback is done. I'm just curious as to what number would be closest to their quarter mile time from the following sequence....15-16-17-18-19-20???

Second: '67 Chevelle, 327/325 stock hp (he said from his "manual"? i'm guessing gross numbers here?), .060 over, old Rochester 750 carb, Edelbrock Performer intake, double hump heads (no port job), stock cam, 4-spd (inexperienced/bad driver). What kind of hp here? And what times? How much do these cars weigh? Can I take him?

Last: Anyone have a clue what I'll be running? I say right around 14 flat. Tireburner thinks mid-high 13s (I think that's what he said)....'71 351W, stock bottom end and heads (Edelbrock lifters, valve springs, timing chain), Edelbrock 750 manual choke carb, Performer RPM intake/cam, flex fan, K&N filter, Moroso wires, Accel coil, 1 5/8" longtubes with 2 1/2" exhaust (glasspacks), C4, TCI Break-a-way stall (1000 rpm over stock....what's stock stall speed on my '66 C4?), B&M Street/Strip shift kit, Currie 9" rear, 3.70s Trak-Lok, shift at 5200 rpm or so....car will weigh around 3100 lbs...

Thank you all in advance for your help!

the stock eclipses with no turbo run at around 16.5 to 17 at 80 mph or so.

my guess as to the HP of the chevelle is gonna be 340. i am 99% sure he is right about the 325 stock number, and that would be gross. he isn't going to get much from the mods you listed. and i would guess he would run 14's.

i checked a website about the performance of your car. stock, it was 320 hp, and if you had 3.91 gears, weighed 3452 lbs (stock weight), it ran 13.9's at 102 mph. stock. i figure with the slightly higher gear(numerically lower), but with the torque converter, those two should cancel out. figure you have another 20-25 hp. every hundred pounds is worth a tenth.i am going to guess 13.3 at 105. rough guess, bet i'm close.

Hmmm....My engine, stock '71 351W-2V was rated at 240 Bhp. Where'd you get 320 Bhp stock? I need to start checking that place out! haha

And 3452 lbs stock? Curb weight (stock) for my '69 Coupe was 2850 or so with a 200 cid and 3-spd manual tranny. I had my coupe weighed and it was about 3025 with 1/4 tank gas. Fastbacks weigh about 50 lbs more than coupes, so I figure around 3100 lbs is about right.

I estimate my horsepower to be around 360 Bhp. That's around 290 or so net hp.

If I ran a 13.3@105 I would crap my pants. I still think I'll be around 14 flat though...

the numbers that i gave you were quoted from a website. i guess your car has different features than the one i found. i am 99% sure your 351 made more than 260 bhp.

It's only 260hp rating because of the 2 barrel. With a 4 barrel, they were 290.

Don't sweat it with the chevelle. They are heavy mother..... Automatics give good times with a nice launch. I've ran 2 chevelles one with a 396 and the other with a 350 destroked. I had stock heads, a 500 cfm edelbrock, cam, intake, a heavy 9 inch rear end with some crappy 3.00, a c-4 modded, no fan, ps, headers and dual exhaust and still beat them oh yeah and some skinny 205-70-14 tires in a fastback with a 302 engine. since then I've done way more but the 350 stayed 3/4 of car behind me. It's a destroked 350 th350 trans headers edelbrock intake holley carb dual exhaust not sure what else maybe some heads. race them and find out good luck.

I was pretty sure I could take the Chevelle, but I didn't want to be overconfident/arrogant at the same time. I'll just see how it goes. Our cars will be finished around the same time, and he will be getting his license just before then. He shouldn't be a very good driver, I will probably be his first race. I'd be willing to bet he'll miss the 2-3 shift if he's trying to powershift it.

I'm getting anxious!

With stock heads, I think your 14.00/100 estimate is about right. I don't think the Chevelle will do that well.. Most drag strips have a scale on the return road so you can check out your race weight by just driving on and looking over at a LED.

The "'97 Eclipse, auto, 2.0l DOHC no turbo, stock. " You will destroy. The chevelle you will destroy, I would give it a 15.2+. You have nothing to worry about. Have you ran your car before?

I'm figuring my car will run about the same as yours. But I honestly not sure how much hp it has. I know stock 290, but I know that there has been a fair amount of engine work done on it. It has a Holly 4Bbl carb, I know there is a new Motorsport Fuel Pump, umm.. K&N Air Filter, new exhaust. After my car has been painted the car is going in for the engine to be adjusted and then get it Dyno'd.

I had my coupe weighed at the city dump last summer. That's how I think I have a pretty good estimate at what my fastback will weigh. I will take the fastback to the dump and see what it weighs before I take it to the track too.

I knew I'd smoke the Eclipse. I was just wondering how slow the car was so I could make fun of the kid for telling me it's "Not great off the launch, but once I hit about 40 mph it hauls f-ing azz". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.....

I wasn't sure about the Chevelle. I thought I could take it but I wasn't real sure. I'm pretty confident I can but I'm not going to talk a whole bunch of **** to him about the race either, just cuz that's stupid to do that. And his dad has a Vette that would rip me a new ******.

I've never ran my car. I was planning on taking it to the track last summer. But I wrecked it in August before I had the chance. This summer I will be able to take my fastback to the track though.
