Cool

I ran my first 12 sec timeslip 12.89 @ 108 MPH, with only the following.

4.30 gears
BBK offroad H
Steeda Pulleys
275/50/15 BFG Drag radials

That is it!!! Full weight. There isn't a GT around that could do that with only $700 in mods.

Holy smokes jmeiers.... that is insanely great 12s with $700 of mods!!!! WOW! I'm impressed.

Rocket 99GT... I notice on your mod list you do not have a MAF system. Make sure to take out that passenger headlight when you race him. That is good for about 10-15HP (or about .2 on the quarter)... NO KIDDING!!!!! I've tried everyway possible and without a Steeda Timing adjuster, the best way to get the air in the engine is by keeping your plastic cover over your air filter. Make sure to remove the restrictive plastic tube that goes out into your fender (it's a 2 piece cover).

After reading the arguments, I'm starting to worry about your launch too. One of the locals here has 3.73 and lowering springs, and because of that, he is very inconsitant on his launches. Good Luck dude!

Cool

I was using the Supercharged S281 story as my backup to the top-end charge that even a stock Cobra has.

He had me out-powered for sure but he was overgeared with 4.10's along with a roots blower. He most likely ran out of gear on the highway, and mine, when I had stock gearing, could keep on chugging. But, now, this same car, even though he is my friend, won't even try me. He is gonna sell it the last I heard and get an LS1.

Trade S281 against an LS1? But why? The S281 out of the box is faster, AND better looking! (I know I know, looks are subjective)...

Not saying anything wrong with the LS1. THEY ARE AWESOME... I brought a lightly moded 30th aniversery one down the track at 13.19 on my second run!!!! The shifter in there is so sweet!

Hate to say it but look at the may 5.0 mag... N/A s281 ran 13.92@100.04 and SUPERCHARGED s281 ran 13.48@107.19... sorry but a lot of ls1's will beat those times... not to mention some of the "Stock gt" that people claim to have.

If you are confident in your launching then I say you should win a close one.

5.oh...That wasn't a good test either. I have seen 3 other tests the S281 R or SC depending on what year....the 99 and up ran a 12.7@110 on slicks and another test it ran a 13.0 @ 108. Mt tested the 99 at 13.4 @ 106 on street tires, so NO most LS1's won't beat this car...hmm lets see here...302-320 hp vs 350-360 hp. IMHO

FivepointOH... you forgot to mention they had a trailer hitch with 38ft boat attached to it when the S281 hit 13.48.

There is no way in hell a S281 properly driven is going to post those times... I hit 13.66 with a stock GT... and can consistently hit 13.7-13.8.

With a car that has 100HP+ more, that car is for sure in the 12s.

Again, this is questionable.
It's all in the driver.

Doesn't the S-281 have IRS?
I think so - that's probably why they ran the times they did?

Hey you don't belive me go check out the may issue of 5.0 mag.... I agree that car should be at least in high 12's(traction problems??) but 107mph isn't much higher than most ls1's and lower than some....

I'm not making any Jabs or doubting the power of the LS-1's, and I've said this before.

Where are all these Super LS-1s that Run 107 in the quarter in stock form? Where are all these stock LS-1s that run High 12's low 13's in basic Z28 or Trans-Am form?

There are none around here, thats for sure. People at the Hang out here with Camaros swear they run these kind of numbers, but everytime I go to the strip, or one of my friends goes, we never see them turn in the God like times they supposedly run. They dont even come close.

The only impressive LS-1 I've seen is a 2000 SS Z28 thats modded, his ran high 12's, although he doesnt drive his own car at the strip, he has his friend drive it.

Whats up with that? Maybe its just the GM drivers here suck that bad, I dont know.

5pointoh- I never said I didn't belive you. I saw that magazine, and I was disappointed. I was just saying that the S281SC is faster than that test...you don't know the track conditions or temperature, etc...I was just saying that they are a lot faster than that.

FivepointOH,

Unfortunately if we would believe every publications out there I would be running a 14.2-14.4 right now.

For the fun of it, let's just go to the analyser on the side bar of this site...
If you give it 360HP and 3700lbs (car and driver), the car is said to run 12.66 under ideal conditions. hmmm...

You know when motortrend rated the S281-SC at 13.4 ... I was so angry at them!!! I've seen that car (model 99) run against a tweaked up SN95 on Nitrous all night and they were running mid-high 12s. But you know, a lot of times are made a bit higher so they don't get flak from drivers that can't get those times.
