Default The TURD got OWNED

Ha ha ha revenge is sweet! I beat Mike twice, here's the best times I got out of three runs. I'll post the other timeslips tomorrow. No more 16 second club for me, lol

The attachment sucks but I'll scan them in again tomorrow with a better scanner. I got a best of 14.1 at 100.4

You'll be deep into the 13's if you can get your 60 foot time down

The turd is a freak......15 flat with a 2.4 60 foot.....that's amazing for a 97 GT

Bite me Dean. That happens to be a stock '97 GT. Quoted at 15.1 by the best mags, would run high 14's if there was any damn track prep. Just check the 60' and do the math.

Geezus that IS amazing! There are guys with 3800 series II V-6 Camaros and Firebirds posting those kinds of times on their boards.

Maybe you're on to something here. I could switch from a Turbo Buick and enjoy these changes:
Less interior/leg room
Worse mileage
Less trunk space
Fewer creature comforts
Worse ride
AND....
have less power

EXCELLENT!

What's really amazing is that that's the same story with every factory F-body since yours. The TTA and GN were amazingly fast cars. Too bad they are both dated, and the guys who engineered the F-bodies think that putting a hump in the passenger side floorboard is good way to make the cat fit.

You have an easy 13.5 -13.6 with a good 60ft 1.8 or 1.9.

Congrats, very soon you will join the 13 second club. I wouldnt doubt if you would run a 13.3 with slicks, obviously that track must suck @ss.

Later,

Yeah, Dark. The weather was good, but the track was hooking for crap, and the officials were peckers.

He's going to rebuild the s/c, and grap some et streets, I think. I've got a little work cut out for me, eh?

If you do the head swap and get the 99+ heads you should be able to hang.

My buddy has a 96 stang with slicks and a 100 shot. He runs 13.4's @104mph.

If I were you I would spray it,

If anyone has any suggestions for me as far as which parts you think I may need, or any tips for me to improve, please speak up.

Default Second run

I got nervous thinking the Camaro SS was going to smoke me, and spun all the way through 1st gear 'til 5000 rpm's then had to back off and catch up starting at 2nd gear. The guy just got the car so I don't think it was driven to it's potential, but then again, mine wasn't either. The worst part about the run was that after getting shafted on not being able to line up against Mike, they didn't capture the 1/4 time or mph. I waited for about 45 minutes to race, and I got shafted.

Yea, other dated cars include GTOs, Chevelles and Shelby Mustangs. It's kinda nice having something you don't see a hundred times a day. Maybe that contributes to the desireability and high value

I'd think it's safe to say every car has engineering "lapses".

Happy Holidays!

You're right about the muscle cars. They all have useable trunks, too. I was only pointing out that the slower/less room comment about a change from the GN isn't exclusively Mustang. But moving on...

As far as the engineering 'lapse' on the early 4.6's, one must consider the introduction of the ohv v-8 all together. There comes a point where you turn a motor loose on the public and see what happens. Sure, with a more aggressive stock gear, the cars would have been faster, or give the heads more port, but the issue of emmissions helped speed the introduction.

I think if you'd asked a Ford engineer, about the 4.6 in 96, they would have liked to keep it on the shelf for a little more tuning. Maybe I underestimate those guys, or maybe it was the bean counters that did it. Either way, its still the same block as the new cars, and a head swap is a simple fix.

I've got a couple of things up my sleeve, but remember this car is my daily driver. Come rain, sleet, snow, hail (yeah right in CA?!) its my motorcycle or the mustang. So its a must that I take my time, do it right, and keep it within 'reason'. Not to mention the toughest emmissions standards anywhere, ugh.

One question Dean, what's your daily anyway?

Kudos on the good points you've outlined.

2001 Chevy Blazer for me, 2001 GMC Jimmy for the better 1/2.
