Heres the way I was told to do it. If I am wrong about this someone let me know. You take the boost (10psi) and add it to atmospheric pressure 14.7 and then divide by 14.7. Multiply this ratio by the current displacement 302 and you get 507. I think thats right.

It's way off.
They should replace it with "The only replacement for displacement is......A BIG *** TURBO"

Even then, it's not a replacement for displacement. You can bolt the same turbo up to any size motor.

Looks like it's still a fact, there is no replacement for displacement.

Yeah, but the turbo can only flow so much air. If it's running at it's full potential on a small engine, running it on a bigger engine won't make any more power. Displacement has it's tradeoffs too, when was the last time you saw a bigblock road race car?

True, the larger motor has larger airflow requirements because it's making more power, so you would need to step up to a larger turbo. I should have said "you can bolt up turbos to any size motor"

As for not seeing any big block road race cars... where have you been? Rulemakers only limit engine size to control the speed levels. Have you ever noticed that in Pro Stock, F1, Indy, and Nascar, they all run up against that limit? They NEVER run a smaller engine because it just makes them slower and less reliable. Small engines suck. They are only run because it controls the overall speed.

btw, Can-Am was essentially unlimited, and 540 inch engines were common. This was probably only limited by the lack of aftermarket blocks able to go bigger. The Corvettes and the Saleen S7's that run in ALMS are 427 inch, the Viper is 488...

Are there any other tradeoffs with displacement?

Just wanted to comment and say that I got beat soundly by a crx the other day. I had him by a car in first(I did have better traction) and when he hit 2nd he took off and pulled hard on me... at least a 2 car lead when we let off. He had some gauge on the pillar... dunno what it had but it was a quick little car.... i didn't hear a turbo either.

It's definitely very possible. CRXs weigh in the neighborhood of 1800-2000lbs. Common thing to do is swap in the best honda motor and run a medium shot of nitrous.

With all of that, they typically run low 14s to low 13s. Just load up a small 75-100 shot of nitrous and you've got 'em

at the track i race at (carlsbad raceway) ricers completely take the whole interior of their cars apart right then and there w/ a cordless makita and leave piles of interior ***** all over the parking lot and then at the end of the day they put it all back in and drive home. if that aint dedication i dont know what is! some of them smoke C-5 corvettes. and some of them run 19's. as long as i never get beat by one i could care less.
