Cool EZRIDN Vs. 35th SS Conv....

Coming back from the track last night in the LS1 i was on a deserted 4 lane highway when i rolled up on a 35th SS Conv. When i creep past him i notice he starts pacing me at 65 mph I drop it out of OD and i hear him downshift. He kicks it first and i nail it, the A4 takes a second to downshift and he pulls half a car. i see his front end bouncing from him banging gears and he pulls to a solid car lenght lead to 120.

Next run i hit it (again at 65) first and pulled him 3/4 of a car through my 2nd gear. I hit 3rd and he starts creepin back up but is still 1/2 car behind me til 115.

3rd run he hits it first (at 65mph), and he pulls a 1 car lead til 110. We get a light and chat for a sec.

Him...this is all stock 6 spd? Are you an A4?
Me...Yea w/ 2.73s
Him...I could tell because i woudl catch and pull when you car shifted.
Me....Have you run it?
Him...Yea and i spun bad and they were nto giving out time slips today...

We are the first at the light and i hear him tach it up waiting for the light change. I'm thinking the A4 is going to show him how Drag racing is done...lol. Light changes and i spin just a hair. the A4 clicks second and i look back, he is in the right lane and i am in the left. I saw both of his headlights in my rearview by 60!

I let off b/c we were in a 45 mph now. It was a good run. Both cars pretty close form a roll, but from a dead stop the A4 easliy won.

Anyways, thought i would share.

Thats exactly why I love racing the LS-1 autos, they will really test your driving ability.

nice runs,

The 6 speed LS-1's are a Bltch to launch. I rarely lose to the 6 speeds off the line. They trap a higher mph but I can usually hold them off with a good launch.

All of the fast LS-1's seem to be auto's. There are lots of them running 11's and 12's @115+

I dunno what it is with the 03' cobra's around here best so far is a 13.3 @109mph....I runa 13.66 @102 with 100 less HP.

After I get my exhaust and headers done maybe I can score an 03 cobra kill

Later,

good kill, EZ. i still don't think i've raced an A4, but i've squeezed past a couple of 6 spds out there. they're real fun.

Dark, keep in mind that a loaded 03 Cobra weighs like 3,850#

speaking of them, though, there's a guy here in Ft. Wayne that has one fairly modded, he's got full exhaust, pulley, and gears, and i think a couple other things. it's lowered, DR's, etc.

anyway, he claims low 12's high 11's at like 120, but i saw him at the track one night, and it was running 13.2 at 116-117!! he was smoking them all the way into third. i don't know his 60's, but imagine they were awful. we were in awfully good air, too, btw.

just thought i'd kick this in, since you mentioned them.

The only thing I envy about the M6 cars, is their trap speeds!

Good kill. A4 LS1's are tough. I had an 88GT that had some motor work done. The auto gave me fits off the line, I would catch and pass fairly easy, but much harder to race than a M6 LS1.

I raced an A4 SS with my 03 when I first got it. All I heard was a chirp from the SS and I was a little too agressive and spun badly. I caught and passed quickly, but like you said they test your skills.

Yeah our weight is what gets us down. Sometimes the times are very deceiving because they are tricky to launch. If you launch too low the car bogs bad (due to no low end, at least until boost) that is the biggest killer of mph.

On the other hand if are too agressive then you wheel hop or go up in smoke endlessly.

Thanks for the replies. Those '03 Cobra's are tough cars. I would love to have one sometime soon.
