Default what CD player can i use with my fact fmcassete

I have a fact am/fm cassete and above it is a big
rectangular hole where maybe there was a junk box
or something. now it is empty.

I want to put a CD player in there. the reps at
crutchfield tell me if I put in one of their standared
cd players - the amp in the CD will fight with the factory
amp and both will burn out.
Am I stuck to listen to crappy music or what can I do?
Also it looks horrible with a big hole in my center dash.
any suggestions appreciated

Default CD Changer

why don't you get an FM modulated CD changer
I'm sure almost all major stereo manufacturers make them. You can get ones that hold 6, 10, or 12 CD's (and probably more now and depending on the manufacturer), The CD signal goes through an FM station on your stock deck
I had one in my pickup I used to have, it was a Kenwood unit and worked very well
you can mount the display in that ugly hole you are talking about, you'll probably need to make some sort of mount for it but the display is light so it won't have to support much weight

if you want to keep the stock cassette deck, I say this is one of the very few options you have and it should work good for you.
this is what I did I few years ago with my pickup

you want to get a radio frequency cd player that will send a radio signal to your tape decks tuner. from there u can listen to any cd u want by just tuning into the station designated for reception by the cd player on your factory tape deck. that will run u about 149 bucks and it will fill the hole. sony is the only one i know who makes it. you can also buy an installation kit that will cover up that hole or even create another pocket for "junk" to store. that will run u 15.99. scoche makes those. when u listen to ur cds through the rf (radio frequency) cd player it will sound like the radio obvoiusly so there is a slight disadvantage there. if i was u i wouldnt bother with the rf cd player and just get a new cd player but thats just my opinion.

hope this helps -danny

the cd player that I was talking about goes through your radio but it has a direct wire that goes through your antenna and when it is on it will block all other radio signals so it is very clean, still not as good as a regular cd deck but way WAY better than radio
and as soon as you shut it off you can recieve regular radio stations again

ercool, if the guys at crutchfield told you that you cannot hook up a head unit in your car because of the factory amp they should be fired. It takes about half an hour to hook up a head unit with the proper parts. Buy the head unit of your choice, any one will fit. All you need then is the mounting plate to cover up that nasty hole in the dash, and an adaptor plug that bypasses the factory amp. I bought all my stuff at sound advice, so if you have one near you, check them out. The reason the factory amp cannot be hooked up is because the wattage coming from the factory amp is less than the wattage coming out of most head units (40x4, ect.) Also, if you buy your head unit at best buy or sound advice, they usually will install it for free, so you dont have to worry about it. Hope this solves your problem - John
