Fast Running Stock Headed Gt's? (JL1314)

Everyones doubting Units times, heres one I've had a hard time believeing, but Im not doubting.

Joe's 105mph stock headed 150k miled GT.

WTF thats only 2mph slower than my fully modded gutted car with only 40k miles on the motor.

WHAT GIVES ON THAT!

Time to start explaining Joe ;) Wheres the juice?

Sky, this is the internet , and you and I have seen lots of "stuff" here over the years. Some of it might be more believable than other "stuff" .

Personally, I believe what I see at the track. There may be "freaks" out there, but I believe'em when I see'em.

And even then, I still want to look for hidden mods (especially hidden N2O2).

ricekilla 05-12-2002 05:29 PM

can someone tell me where i can get one of those? add a blower and it'll trap 120.

Skyman 05-12-2002 05:36 PM

What a 105mph stock headed 5.0?

lx mike 05-12-2002 06:19 PM

This is a friends car
87 gt, 5 speed, 3.73's, drilled front struts, explorer intake, home ported e-7's, 1.7 rockers,70 mm throttle body, no powersteering, ac or smog pump.stock cam and headers. flowasters. running on 26-10-15 e.t drags best 1/8 mile time of 8.04@84 m.p.h

have you checked out joes web page, he lists the mods he has done.

87vert351 05-12-2002 09:52 PM

One of my buddies has an lx that goes 12.60@107-108 and 11.60@116 on the hose with:
a stock short block
home ported e-7's
e-303
1.7 rr's
edelbrock performer intake
65 mm tb
24lb injectors
T-5
4.10 gears

The car weighs 2900-2950 without him in it. It made 260rwhp on a mustang dyno with the first 100,000 mile shortblock. He swapped for a lower mileage block so I'm unsure of hp number now.

joe4speed 05-13-2002 01:32 PM

LOL....
I dunno why!!! 13.58@105? That's not too fast to me!!! I wish it was faster! That was a hard launch with slicks I borrowed from a friend, and no wheelspin whatsoever. I can't explain it, and that was not at 150k that was at 100-120k on that motor. Last time I went to the track I got no better than 14.1@100 or so (with spin) I actually have no hidden bottles or anything!! Freak of nature?? maybe!! LOL

joe4speed 05-13-2002 01:34 PM

and that 14.1 was 167,000 miles on it. :p

haven't ya ever just had a really good run??

but hey! Did you see the WORST time?? 16's!!!!!!!! That sucks!

Skyman 05-13-2002 01:46 PM

Your best MPH is 108? NO WAY IN HELL W/ STOCK HEADS! Are you running 2000' below sea level? Whats up w/ that?!

I have gone a best of 12.82 @ 104 with BONE STOCK heads, cam, and intake. 93 LX 5-speed, 3.73's and slicks, and all the common bolt-ons. 1.72 60 ft.

And thats at 3440lbs. with me in it.

You guys remember, the concrete in the back...........

Skyman 05-13-2002 05:42 PM

Dark_5.0 05-14-2002 07:39 AM

I dont know what the deal is I have seen lots and lots of ported and polished stock headed cars go 105-108 mph.

Anyone ever heard of the HP to weight ratio?

fiveohpatrol 05-15-2002 10:04 PM

I've trapped 106.8 before, just spun bad, so the ET wasnt too great

joe4speed 05-16-2002 01:02 AM

Hmmm with all these 12 second cars at 105, I'm really beginning to believe that my timeslips were wrong all night that night. Thanks for raining on my parade. Do the computers ever lie???

Skyman 05-16-2002 01:51 AM

What was your 60' Joe and I can tell you.

MANY times they have been fucked up at the track I went to. It once was reading 8mph too slow intermitantly.

Skyler

I can't quite recall it, I believe it was 1.9xxsomething
I only keep tabs on the date, reaction times, 1/4 mi, mph, and opponent.

Rev 05-16-2002 05:54 PM

Hey, maybe he was using my G-tech? It always traps about 5-6 mph too fast, hee, hee.

Rev

fiveohpatrol 05-16-2002 06:01 PM

My 12.90 run was on a 1.72 60ft time.

and my 106.8mph run was on like a 2.1 60ft and only netted a 13.4

har har

this was at Moroso motorsports park in palm beach gardens, in 1997.

Skyman 05-17-2002 12:31 PM

Sounds more lik 101mph territory. 105 woulda got you a 13.0-13.1

joe4speed 05-17-2002 01:43 PM

OK I changed my sig to 101.. I hope EVERYONE is happy!!

Dont worry about it, I have seen many cars that trap 13.5 @105+

Not throwing stones here but some of you need to get to the track more.

"If you believe a stock 87GT can trap 100+ then believing JL1314 runs 13.58 @105 shouldnt be a problem"

Later,

Skyman 05-17-2002 05:35 PM

I was just harassing you Joe, nothing mean spirited :)

Dark, 13.58@105 w/ a 1.9 60x on slicks doesnt add up.

I know you were, bro, It's allll good! I'll still race anyone! :) Win or lose!

Tim Lester 06-10-2002 06:29 AM

I have seen in NMRA FS a car that ran a 11.8 @ 113 with BFGs.

kevknotch88 06-10-2002 10:10 PM

Sky,
My car has stock heads with a TFS stage 1 cam and a gt-40 and I trapped 104.64 @ 13.651 at rockingham nc which is very near sea level. When the cam was installed, i replaced the valve springs and ran the stock 3:08 gears (145000 miles). A couple of weeks ago I went 8.35 @ 76.11 with 3:55's and ET Streets. Hope the streets and gears will go very low 13's in October at Da Rock. The gears probably had alot to do with my speed, but I know I was considerably faster than several cars I raced on top end.

PS Can fax you the slips

Lizard King 06-11-2002 10:59 PM

Question... true or false... 60ft have minor bearing over trap speed? 1.9 or 2.3 will usually produce the same no?

Skyman 06-12-2002 01:58 PM

You are correct lizard.

Five0 06-16-2002 09:33 PM

Man I wish I had seen this post earlier, My 88 gt with over 100,000 on the odometer ran a 13.4 at 105 in the 1/4 mile with the stock heads and stock ported intake.
Mods to the car were:
3.55 gears
underdrive race crank pulley
stock ported intake
stock headers
stock gutted h pipe
dynomax mufflers
traction bars
sub frame connectors
tremec trans
ram clutch
k&n air filter
Chip
no a/c
no smog pump
accell coil
home made ram air
We scraped all the black tar stuff off the floor
The car cut a 1.9 to a 2.0 on street tires and would run the 1/4 mile in 13.4 at 105 mph in the middle of the summer.
I never had it to the track on a cool day.
It was done in Gainesville fl and yes the car was a freak.

I wish my current mustang ran half as well as my 88 gt did.
The best time I can get out of my current car is a 12.5 at 109 mph and I had a lot more done to it. It kind of makes you sick to see someone with so little mod’s run that good.

As a matter of fact when I went to the 347 I actually slowed down to a 12.6 at 109 but I know it was not running right and needed a lot of tuning.
