fastang hits the dyno!
I hit about what I expected, On all three runs I hit exactly 230RWHP and my best torque was 292. I was having probs with detonating in third last week at Carlsbad and my car kept surging below 2000rpm. I bought a FPR and bumped the pressure 8-9 pounds and it stopped detonating and nearly completely stopped the surging.
So all my dyno runs were made with only 9 degrees of timing because I had to turn it down to stop detonating. I am getting 24lb injectors and a 255 lph pump next month. I think this will let me get my timing back and I hope to hit at least 250 RWHP when Im done. Right now with low timing they said Im putting about 280 at the fly. Any ideas? ------------------ 95GT B303 cam, 1.7 rockers, 65mm TB, 73mm MAF, milled heads, 355's K&N, BBK Longtubes, Flowmaster cat back, pulleys, msd coil, 9mm wires, Tremec 3550, Pro5.0 shifter,10.5 Motorsport clutch, FMS aluminum driveshaft, weld in subframe connectors |
I would think you should definatly put out more power than that. Im wonder if the B303 and 1.7s is too much lift for those stock heads... Also the timing is probaby killing you. I think a 255 pump is going to be way over kill. I say a 190 at the max. Thats what I run and the guy at the dyno said it was causing it to go rich.

Sky, I figured that the larger pump would just force more fuel through my return line. Especialy since I have an adjustable FPR. It will only allow so much to enter the engine by fuel pressure. I thought I would use a 255 just in case I need the extra fuel later when I get heads or squeeze. Please let me know if I am wrong.

People told me the same thing about the extra fuel, that it would go back to the tank. It isn't putting any extra pressure, just more volume.

I think your car's doing pretty good. The B303 and 1.7's is alot for the stock heads, like Sky said. Do the heads and intake and the power will go up huge. For now you may want to look into getting a chip burned for the B303 cam because this cam likes to run rich @idle so the computer may be having trouble compensating and leaning out the engine for the idle and keeping it too lean below 2000 causing the surge. Good luck.

Red82GT, I think your exactly right. I bumped my timing a few degrees a few days ago and it started idling realy rough and the surging got worse. Its gotta be fuel. I was going to start building a 331 stroker but I just might get a Holley Systemax kit for my 302 instead. Im pleased with my torque output though. 292 at the wheels seems decent to me. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

Sounds like once you get the bugs worked out it will do good! You definitely need an intake though, that's a big cork in your combo.

fastang,
It's detonating with anything higher than 9* of timing?? How's that? I don't really understand. ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup w/ 4" Cowl Stock 5.8L, C4 w/ shift kit Holley 750 cfm, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake 1 5/8" MAC shorty headers, Al driveshaft 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters Front: 225/60/15, Rear: 255/60/15 Eagle GT II Weld wheels (15x6;15x8), 8.8" Rear w/ 3.55s 14 x 4” K&N air filter (getting the Xtreme setup soon) http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/cool.gif "Red, thou art my companion. I really dont understand either! When I had my timing up to 12 The idle was REAL choppy and rough, and it surged badly below 2000rpms. I dropped the timing down to 9 and it almost completely stopped surging and the idle became much smoother, like stock. It also detonated when I went to the track at 9 degrees timing. When I bumped the fuel pressure 10 lbs it seems to have stopped the detonation. I think its leaning out. Or my MAF is completely fucked.

Changing the timing always gave my car a bad hunting idle problem also. You have to play with the idle screw and the TPS after you mess with the timing. Or atleast I always did.

Been there, done that, Ive adjusted my tps so many times the ******* screw is stripped! lol As soon as I get the injectors and pump, Im getting it tuned on the dyno w the custom chip, then Im concentrating on the stroker.

Not just the TPS, but the idle screw also. And you may even have to pull the battery for 30min to get it to idle. I know, I'vd had more idle problems than you can imagine.
