FHP Camaro
Here is a look at what we are going against in FL. FHP now has 200 Camaros that were purchased to crack down on street racing and aggressive drivers.
The Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 5.7L engine, which according to tests performed by Michigan State Police, pushes the Chevrolet Camaro to a top speed of 159 miles per hour. The Camaro is also able to achieve a speed of 100 miles per hour from a stopped position in only 13.93 seconds while the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor takes 24.61 seconds. If you live in FL, watch out for this in the rearview!

I saw one a few days ago at an accident site on I-95 in West Palm...
Funny it took them so long to get them.. My local P.D. (Jupiter) has had 2 of them for a few years. Looks cool.. I'll race them too!

We've got 2 of them up here in NY. They may go 0-100+ in 13.9, but if you're already going 100+ passing them sitting still..........you're gone by the time they hit 60.

I'd sure hate to have to change the spark plugs on that thing...plus, with the build quality of those cars and the abuse they will see as cop cars - they will probably be in the shop more than they are on the road.
Maybe they can use them as Florida decoys - where they park them near Hwy underpasses with dummies (no not the cop) inside.

YEah, we have them in North Carolina also. They seem to do alot of "Speeding" of there own on the Back Country roads. I passed one once, we were both going about 90 MPH in oppostie directions.
They seem to like doing there own Speed tests back on Tim C's testing grounds (Back country roads). A few days ago on the way to work, I turned and saw a black LS-1 Z28. So I reved it up and waved, then I noticed the silver stripe on the side and the Text North Carolina State Police Opps. |

Anyways.....Would be fun to have. I will check into if these cars have any beefed up parts from the factory. I think it would be neat to own one b/c they would be rare. Probaly cheap also when the Highway patrol is done with them. Same reason people like the 5.0 ex-Police car coupes.

We've had these up here since '93 when they stopped using stangs LT-1's and now LS-1's. They switched to autos after too many of the cops bagged the 6 speed (They must've been really rough on it because the T56 is one of the most rugged trannys available).
Word is the Crown Vic interceptor is getting the DOHC 4.6 too. According to my friend that works at the garage where they service the police fleet the camaros usually visit once a month for repairs and after a year of use they're getting pretty loose.
