Finally lost....but to a 98 Lingenfelter!

Ok, this hasn't happened in a LOOOOOONG time, but I finally had my @$$ handed to me, but at least it was by a more than worthy opponent.

It happened Monday evening, as I was taking a fat @$$ friend out on a ride(fat as in 240 lbs) The worst part was that he was telling all his friends that my car was the fastest car around....YEAH RIGHT!!! I was on a brand newly surfaced concrete road, and I see this guy I have talked to a few times with a very fine 1998 Lingenfelter 383 C5 Corvette Convertable. I knew he wanted some when he saw me, he kinda gave me this wassup grin, and threw a rev. I was like, you want some boy??? j/k. But I was really telling my bud, "this is one of the fastest cars in town..." I thought well, I might as well see how I can hold up with this 12.2 sec 118 mph 1/4 450 hp monster with 4 3" SS tips, 19" fiske wheeled, mystic airbrushed front ended silver beauty. This car's front had a custom front that was a green/blue/purple airbrushed godzilla ripping through the cars metal....you'd have to see it. N-E WAYZ on to the race...

As we cruised for an opening for about a half mile, we were at about 25 mph.just leaving town on the freeway(Right in my 2nd gear sweet spot) We both nodded, and I hit it! I immediately jumped about a half car, only because he was spinning, I had about a fender lead when I shifted into 3rd, and then he started inching away from me in up to about 5000 in 3rd, where the inching slowed a bit, but by about 5500 in 4th(115-120 mph) he had a solid 2-3 car lead on me. We both pulled over and talked a bit, he told me that my stang gave him his best run yet, with the exception of my old H.S. buddies dad's 99 VT with twin turbos(I ain't kiddind, that car is bad!!! dynoed 875 rwhp)that he said beat him by about 5-6 cars on the turnpike. HE was the coolest C5 guy I had ever met...

He said his expected ET and mph was about a 12.30@116 since it was a heavier vert...MT tested a 98 383 at 12.2@118, so he might be a little underrated on his car.

Ultimately, I was happy for my loss, since I had a 240# passenger, and he had none. I am not sure how close it would have been if I was alone, but I am sure it would have still been atleast a 2 car deficate. Til next time.

Wonderful story Saleen GTS. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/cool.gif

Yeah, I think he would've still beat you if you didn't have the 240lb passenger, but it would've been MUCH closer.

In less than a year, when I get into the high 11s, it'll be a different world. Can't wait. (Gotta stop screwin around in the 13s)

This guy in Ottawa is running a ZR1 Lingenfelter at 11.7 on the quarter... that thing is insane.

Cool story. Took a Lingenfelter to take ya down though. Great run and the best part ... cool conversation between racers afterwards. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

Great story, those lingfelter's are nasty os all get up, oh how i want one! My friends Dad said that when he gets his super charger and i finish my mill we will have a friendly go at it. His car, by the way, is #15 1998 shelby series one. It is BAD A$$!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/wink.gif Light Em Up!! http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

That was a cool story!

I ran a convertible C5 that hung with me pretty good and I was spraying. I got him by about 2 cars by mid 3rd.

It was also a Lingenfelter 383. He was not so cool though. He was pi$$ed. It was a 3 way race with me, an LS1 WS6, and him. The crazy thing is that I lost to the WS6 and still beat the 383!!!!!!!

smooth 01-27-2001 06:49 PM

118mph, that is horrible for a built 383. 116mph?!?! bone stock internal ls1s can run that!

SaleenGTS 01-27-2001 07:47 PM

So what are you saying? that that car is slow? Not quite sure on your point...

not that it is slow just for someone like lingenfelter who charges ssoooooo much money i'd hope they could turn out some decent packages. get my point?

exgmguy 01-29-2001 07:01 AM

I dunno, 118 is pretty damn fast to me.

Remember that Lingenfelter motor is very smooth and streetable. An LS1 with enough work to trap 118 would not be so refined, and warranty friendly.

smooth 01-29-2001 05:56 PM

it would be good if it were a budget combo but i'd be willing to bet that guy dished out some serious cash. everything i've seen from lingenfelter has been overpriced by atleast 3x. like 100k for their 650rwhp twin turbo c5: twins, built motor and a clutch for 50k? come on.. a high dollar 383 in a light aerodynamic car should be able to run atleast low 120s. maybe he has a really small cam, mild heads and just wants lots of lowend torque or something.

and i dunno.. i've heard a stage 2 heads/cam ls1 with cats/longtubes and you couldn't even hear the lope. i guarantee it would run right along with that 383 if not walk it.

SaleenGTS 01-29-2001 08:27 PM

I see your point, BUT my point was that I pretty much hung with a 116-118 mph car. I am most positive that with a good driver the Coupe would run 120+. Look at the 95 Saleen SR, MT ran it at 117, then MM&FF backed it up with a 122, so as you can see driver errir is a factor. Bottom line I ran a 383 C5 and hung, can't I just be happy with that?

Yes you can. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

smooth 01-30-2001 03:56 AM

definitely, i'd be very happy.

Nice run that should be around a 8 mph difference I would think you get beat by more but good run. Was his vette a auto or stick? You could put some MTI heads and cams and run high 11's @ 119 for a fraction of the cost Lingenfelter charges.
