Will a larger MAF kill low end on a stock motor?
C&L is now advertizing a 76mm MAF and now being in a position to start upgrading my stock motor, would this be a good thing to add? Is 76mm too big or even needed? Is 73mm enough? Will it kill my low end if I do add it? My future plans will to be to stay N/A, street only with heads, cam, intake with lots of torque.

A 76mm MAF will not kill your low end. When I put my 75 mm unit in I noticed a slight increase in upper RPM performance. Absolutely no loss in low end torque.

You won't pick up hardly any power at all. It's a waste of money when you have no other mod's, save up for something that you'll notice. On a heads & cam car, you might pick up just a little power with a bigger mass air. On a stock car, you won't feel one ounce of difference. Trust me.

you wouldnt loost botom end with that only..TB yes if too large..but i agree with bad89 that its not a good thinkg to get now..i recremend doing heads and a alfabet cam first to get you going if you are ogin to do this in steps

Yep, worry about the mass air closer to last of the mods, except when upgrading your injectors, you might as well get it then. N/A stay with the 76mm, I am running the 73 and am about to go to the 76 also. but the 73 is giving me low 12's with a mild cam , mild heads and Big intake.

I agree, I would not get a bigger mass air sensor until I was ready for bigger injectors. Then you would need one that is calibrated with the injectors you get.

I guess this is not the bottleneck right now or even later on a mildly modified motor. Attacking the heads would be the first order of business I guess. What's next, intake? I think I'll stick with my stock cam for now. Would this get me to the magic 300rwhp with just this?

It definately won't hurt.
If you've got the cash for the MAF and still can't afford heads or other larger mods, I'd say go for it. When the bottom line is reached, you still need the same combination of parts. What matter your pursue that combination in is up to you. You can scimp and save to get the shortblock and then add the supporting componets as you can afford them (that's kinda what I did). Or, you can get parts as you feel you can afford them and have the combo ready to go when you can afford to finally do the short block. Really doesn't make much difference other than 1BAD and the others are right that it's not going to make much difference in power right now. Of course, if you don't do anything and opt to save money, that won't make any difference in power, either, right? --nathan
