Post My First Time Racing (long)

Well went to T&T today and had a good time there but my track time wasn't so hot.
i got there at 8:15 and was 2nd in line and then some guys in truck come behind me and we bs'd a bit, then a few of his friends came and he went to talk to them, then about 6-7 vette's came in together!!

finally get inside and all checked in and ready to go and i get lined up with a 94-95 gt well i stayed away from the water box and just did a few dry hops to see how it felt and then moved to the line and staged and held rev at 1500 and sliped clutch out till moving and them hammered it and overrevd first but after that was ok on 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, here's the confusing part my times 60': 2.159 330'- 6.62 660' 10.061@71.5mph 1000' 12.988 1320 15.377@94.52

i have autometer 5" tach with shift lite set at 5300 and traction was good as evident by 60'times on stock radials, but why don't my time look as good as mph shows?? my best run was 15.12 and the difference from slowest to fastest was 1.5 mph . i am new to driving a stick so maybe that could be it?? any opinions are appreciated

My friend ran +16s his first run at the track!! ... he was nervous... his best time that night was about 14.79 but he was always arounf ~15s! If I was driving his car I could easily do better then 14.5!! EASY!

Just learn to relax!. Try to shift a little bit faster!! and you can try to slip the clutch at higher RPM! but your 60' arent the problem anyway!!

Geez... my civic doesnt feel so slow anymore!

Cool

try shifting at a lower RPM... maybe set the shift light to 4900RPM, by the time you react and shift, you'll be around 5100... 5300 is on the down side of the powerband for a stock 5.0... you want to keep the RPMS in the max torque range... and practice ;-)

Yea you know I have seen some fox body stangs with stock 2.3 motors breaking into the low 14's powershifting lol..One thing I would add....I have never raced or anything but read a few things in books...do you have your timing down leaving the line? Like starting at the second to last light to get best reaction times?

It was at a test and tune day. reaction time don't affect time at all. some of the vette guys was leaving the line when the green light came on and had 1.2 second r.t's. my r.t's was in the mid .600's not too bad considering this was my first time at the track with a stick car, if it would have been an auto car then i would have had alot better r.t's

My First Time

The Moon was full,
The night stood still,
I walked to her
And felt the night's cold chill.
I looked in her eye,
And held her in my arms,
I was ready for her now,
Ready for her golden charm.
I loved her a lot,
And I cared so much,
It seemed like she
Was much more than a crush.
I knew it was time,
So I took off my shirt,
I touched her soft breast,
And saw the white soft squirt.
I had a good time,
During that passionate night,
The rest I can't tell,
But do it again,
I might.
It was my first time,
It's all over now,
It was my first time,
Milking a cow.
