gp001 Where in O.C. are you? Why didnt you come to the Thursday night hangout after Giovannis? It got HUGE for a while but the cops raided it 2 weeks ago. I dont know if people are going back yet or not.

I think I'll tag along too.

gp001 07-31-2001 10:41 PM

Fastang- We rolled through there a few weeks ago and it was all imports. We went and had a coffee and rolled back through and it was imports plus a few Camaros. We've been getting the cars in our little group ready for various outings (like the mountain cruise). I'm still trying to figure out a hydraulic clutch setup that I can fabricate to work with my car. I keep reading about you guys going here and there and would like to hook up with you guys. I did go to the big Carlsbad thing earlier this year (as a spectator http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif ), but didn't know who anybody was. I saw Sky run his car, but didn't know it was him until after he posted his videos. I had an awesome view of his first run. I was up by the tower (shack). Man did that thing look brutal when he shifted. Sooner or later I'll hook up with you guys

ed1371 08-01-2001 12:18 AM

You should have come down and talked to some of us! I was wearin my ultra cool MW t-shirt that day...

Irony:
Sky: "hey you can make a pass on my slicks if you want!"

/me looks at his 5 lug rims...DOH!

gp001, Lemme know next time your little crew goes out and I'll join ya if its ok with you guys.

gp001 08-02-2001 12:03 PM

Fastang- To be honest with you, you probably wouldn't want to run with us. I'm the only Ford in the group. Most are F-bodies or Vettes. I have to deal with a lot of anti Ford crap, but then they always say "Oh, but not yours" as I give em the "OH YEA?" look. Most of us will probably be at Fontana so I'll meet up with you there, and who knows maybe you wont find them as obnoxious as I do http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif We really don't have any cruises or anything planned until Fontana (at least for me- I'm hoping to have all the 6 speed/hydraulic clutch stuff figured out). If we do anything I'll send you a PM or e-mail

fastang 08-02-2001 02:23 PM

Yeah, I hear a lot of anti Ford crap too. I just dont let it get to me. I have a decent group of friends with late model F bods as well. Mine are usualy pretty respectable and dont talk **** . Oh well.

Well, I can't go the 8th but if anyone is going to go on Sunday the 9th I'll go. It's on the schedule.

gp001 08-03-2001 06:13 PM

Fastang - You hang around with car guys and they DON'T talk **** ??? Wow, what's that like? Every group of car guys I've ever been around has talked **** . Ya, my friends are the most disrespectful group of azz monkeys I know. Even though most are non-Ford guys, they know their **** and they know how to drive (that's important when they're behind you http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif ), so they're fun to let hang around me. Our little group is pretty damn funny, but absolutely brutal at times.
Does "Oh Well" mean you don't want to hook up at Fontana?

fastang 08-04-2001 12:57 AM

gp001, No I meant Oh well about meeting up with you guys whenever you go out. You politely made it seem as though I wouldnt fit in or you wouldnt want me tagging along. I can respect that.

But I defintiely want too meet up at Fontana. I will introduce you to the F bod guys that I hang out with. They know a lot of 5.0 guys and run with them constantly. I dyoed with them. Unfortunatley at the time thy were about NINETY hp ahead of me. But they didnt talk **** at all. Just said positive **** and helped me pick out parts.

gp001 08-05-2001 12:30 AM

Fastang - I was not saying that I did not want you cruisin with us, frankly I don't care. In fact, I said "you might not find them as obnoxious" & "We don't have anything planned until Fontana, if we do I'll PM or e-mail you". If I didn't want you going with us I would say so. I'm not one to hold back or sugar coat anything. However, most people brought in just can't hang with us. We are BRUTAL with each other. We turn wrenches on each others cars, engineer pieces, fabricate pieces, but we also rip on each other like you would not believe. You'll see at Fontana

If it is anything like Pomona you better get there way before the gates open to get in line. I know Pomona used to cut if off around 600 cars (I think once they tried 800), but there would be 1000+ come. Also, remember tech. You want to be in early. DON'T GET CAUGHT IN TECH BEHIND THE IMPORT GUYS - THEY ARE A JOKE! Most of them don't understand what a "technical inspection" is, and they try to argue EVERY thing. Just a word of warning

True that.

I will be going like I said earlier but I have a few questions that I know someone here will have answers for. 1) My car is a convert & will hopefully at least break 13's. Will I only need a helmet? How fast can you go before they require a rollcage on a conv.? 2)What time is everyone going to get there? If the gates open at 7:00 am then that means I should get there at the latest at 7:00 to make sure I get in right?

ed1371 08-19-2001 02:16 AM

LfiveohX, what are your mods? Are you going to run slicks?

Unless you have some good mods, or really good tires you will be in the 14's cause verts are a little heavy!

LfiveohX 08-19-2001 09:55 PM

ed1371 - I have a gt40 crate motor with cobra intake, 24lb injectors, 73mm MAF, 65mm TB, GT40-Y Aluminum heads, E303 cam, ceramic coated shorty headers, Bassani X-pipe, Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-back, Aluminum driveshaft, 3.73's, and a Lentech Street Terminator AOD with 10" 2800 Stall Converter. I have no traction so my best 60' times are about 2.3 - 2.4. It has run 14.4xx's @ 97 mph at LACR in 100 degree weather with a strong headwind so I definitely think I should be high to mid 13's at a lower elevation in a little cooler weather with denser air. We'll see! Do you know if I will need more than just a helmet?

gp001 08-19-2001 10:14 PM

LfiveohX - go to californiaspeedway.com and click on street legal rules. They say:
Roll Bars & Cages: Roll bar required in any vehicle running between 10:00 and 11:99 E.T. (convertibles between 11:00 and 13:99). Roll cage required in any vehicle faster than 9.99 (convertibles quicker than 10.99). Roll bar / cage structures must meet minimum NHRA standards as found in the 1999 rulebook.

ed1371 (and other non-California members) - I was reading the rules for Fontana and noticed the following rule:
Driver: Must have valid state driver's license. No shorts, bare legs, tank-tops, bare torsos, bare feet permitted when racing. (Insurance requirement).

STATE drivers license? Does this mean you guys coming from other states can't run here? Just thought I would post this so people can be sure before makin the long haul only to get screwed by another wonderful California rule.

technically if a vert is faster than 13.99 then a roll bar is required. I think but am not positive you can get a 4 point one. if you don't break 13.99 real bad (ie 13.5 range) they probably won't give you to much hassle. but you never know. i think that track is still 1100-1200ft and it gets pretty warm out there so you may be ok. just go and see, at least you'll get a better time than lacr!

gp001, You don't need a CA state licence, any state licence will do.
Hmmm, wonder if I should bring documentation that mine is still good...(mine expired 5 years ago but because I am in the military, it is good for as long as I am in)

LfiveoX, It might be a good idea to get a roll bar. A four point would be enough. I dont know how strict these guys are, but @ Carlsbad when I broke into 13's they told me that if I did it again I was going to be stopped from racing for the day. I would put one in anyway just cause it's looks bad *** when the top is down and it REALLY changes the way your car feels (actually solid instead of mushy)

What time will you be leaving and will you be hooking up with anyone anywhere for the trip down?

Guess I will be going to carlsbad on the 15th
(at least I will be running slicks on that slippery track!)

gp001 08-20-2001 09:03 PM

I'm glad I decided to post that info. That would have sucked for you to drive all that way for nothin. Couldn't you use some "Cali" plates????? As I doubt they're going to have a DMV computer there. Maybe someone with some plates off a car they're not bringing that day??? Or not racing that day???? Just a thought

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news

ed1371 08-21-2001 01:01 AM

From what they said on the phone, they want plates and registration.

I "could" borrow plates from a friend and I "could" counterfeit a registration with my computer (heheh, did it on my old beater a few years ago and worked like a charm) but I think I will just play it safe.
There are a few rules I dont comply with anyway (racing harness, battery bolts, and nitrous bottle not vented outside with a blowdown tube. Oh, and I am getting slicks too...

Take lots of pics and good luck to everyone.
