Going to track tonight, advice needed please

Well tonight I'm heading to Lebanon Valley in NY with a bunch of people. It is going to be my first time to a track. At first I was going just to watch but I may run the Mustang cuz it's not everyday I get to go to a track, ya know. What I wanna know is the best way to launch it at the track? I've tried power braking and just straight out punching it, either way it seems pretty slow to me, it does nothing until atleast 3000rpm. I'm going to drive it with OD off should I shift manual or not?? I don't really feel a difference between the 2 but maybe there is.........Any suggestions?? Octane Boost?? Top is gonna be up, windows will be up........What else?? I was also thinking of icing down the intake before I run? Any suggestions would be appriciated, Thank you in advance.

The main thing the first time at the track is to relax and have fun. As for how to drive it turn OD off and load it against the converter (hold the break and give it as much gas as you can without the car moving forward) on the third yellow at the tree let off the brake and floor it at the same time. Than you are just along for the ride.

Have fun thats what its all about.

let the car shift itself. as for getting off the line fast it wont happen in the auto without gears and maybe a conver. and in between your runs give the car(motor and trans) time to cool down maybe try the ice on the intake. but make sure the trans has time to cool down at least because autos build a lot of heat and heat is a bad thing so dont make run after run without it cool down I liked to wait 45min -60min between each run.( when I had my 95GT and yes it was an auto my ex wife could not drive stick)

Hey guys, thanx for the advice, I appriciate it. At the time we pulled in, there was a couple new SS's and Z-28's, 3000GT VR-4, TT Supra's and a few other fast cars, so I decided not to run, but come to find out there was another 2000 V-6 Stang and some 17 and 18 second cars n trucks, so next Wednesday night I'm gonna run it at Lebanon Valley, NY.

I know when you get to the track and see some cars that are faster then yours I can make you not want to run but just remember your not there for them your there to have fun and thats whats its about even if your in a 88 a 4 banger mustang that runs 20s JUST RUN AND HAVE FUN.........
