Hoping for some better track times

Well since the new season is here im hoping to beat my previous best. I threw on a nice new demon in place of the edelbrock and did lightened the car up a little so im hoping for some good numbers. So far this is what ive got.
Horrible 1.055rt
60' 2.296
330 - 6.198
1/8 - 9.362
mph 77.31
1/4 14.455
mph 94.99
The engine was dynod at 354hp with a 650 dp so hopefully the demon is the same or better. Ive also got 3.08s in the back with a 4cyl t5. What do you guys think i should be able to run up here in edmonton. I know i really need to learn the tree and how to launch.

Hate to tell you man, but whatever dyno you were on was wacky, unless your track is a SUPER high altitude. 94mph is about 225hp.

That was the engine dyno and im not sure what the altitude is up here in edmonton.

Dark Knight 04-27-2003 05:50 AM

354 at the engine is still around 280 at the wheels..your MPH is off by about 10mph with that kind of HP..
if the engine was built locally, then there shouldnt be much change with altitude..

what is done to the engine and what RPM are you shifting at?

Dark Knight 04-27-2003 06:06 AM

oh yeah, edmonton is at about 2200' :D

RoadWarrior 04-27-2003 11:18 AM

I usually shift somewhere around 5800 since thats where it makes peak power. I am also assuming that since i have 3.08 to 1 rear end that that might be making a difference.

Skyman 04-27-2003 10:40 PM

Whats done to your engine?

Balanced, blueprinted, eagle crank and rods, 9.25:1 compression. Edelbrock performer 5.0 heads surfaced and a better valve job, edelbrock performer rpm air gap, demon 625 road demon, electric fan, bored .040 over. I think thats most of the big stuff. Ive got all the info on my profile. But thats most of the big stuff.

Dark Knight 04-28-2003 04:10 AM

the gears aren't going to affect the MPH in the 1/4..
whats the timing set at? are you using the stock tach?

I'd try shifting at 6000-6100rpm, run about 17*initial timing...
and try and get some time on a chassis dyno that has an A/F monitor..

The timing is at 34 degrees total timing and im running an autogauge tach for now. Here is a copy of my dyno sheet if it helps any.

RoadWarrior 04-28-2003 10:27 AM

I also recently picked up a A/F gauge and im hoping to get some dyno tuning set up as well as determine what shes got at the rear wheels.

Dark Knight 04-28-2003 10:42 AM

looks to be kinda rich to me..
if thats the water temp, thats a prob too.. alum heads like a little more heat than iron heads..

I dont know what you have for initial, but I'd bump it up some..
something is wrong, you should be running at least the same MPH as me.. maybe a slipping clutch?

Dark Knight 04-28-2003 10:46 AM

oh yeah, 77mph in the 1/8th should give you around 98 MPH in the 1/4.... so it's falling off on the top end.. what fuel pump are you running?

compare your times to there

http://members.cox.net/cappntripps31/Runs2.html

you can see I was up to about 96 mph with a bone stock 5.0... and the difference between 60* weather and 105*... :D

Skyman 04-28-2003 12:20 PM

I would complain bigtime to my engine builder. My car ran about that mph when it was bone stock.

You should be seeing 105+ mph.

Im running a holley blue pump right now but id like to change it out and sump my tank. Also keep in mind that i have horrible r/t's and i spin in first and and a tiny bit in second. And as much as i hate to say it wouldnt it be more on me than the engine right now?

Dark Knight 04-28-2003 12:51 PM

R/T's have nothing to do with the ET... clocks dont start until you move..

same with the 60ft.. I've run .1 slower 60ft and still pulled a higher MPH than with a quicker 60ft..
