Default How lopsided should it be before we don't race?

Yesterday in Houston, I came upon a BMW 328 CI that was goosing it down Braeswood Blvd. Admittedly, I was cruising, looking for the race that I had not had in a while.

We came to a light side by side. I was hoping it was going to be a "M" BMW, but indeed it was not. I thought "Oh well, not really gonna be a race".

When the light turns green, he nails it laying a small amount of rubber. Reflexively, after he had gained about 2 lengths, I nailed it too. I came blasting by him as I hit 2nd gear and was immediately 2-3 lengths ahead. I shut down to about 40 and he came slowly up along side. I think he was being friendly so I just waved at him (Limo tint so I couldn't really see him).

The question I have is, should I have even gone to the trouble? The outcome was a "no brainer", at least to me. Was the risk of a ticket worth it for a sure kill? My instincts just sort of took over when he layed a little rubber. What do you guys think?
