Default can anyone tell me how to hook up a tach in a 98 gt

i just bought an autometer 5 inch tach with shift light off my buddy for only 30 bucks so i couldnt pass it up....can anyone tell me how to hook it up....it has the power wire the ground..and two other wires....my car has two coil packs and im assuming i need to hook it to the negative side of one or maybe both i would apreciate any help you could give me so i dont have to make it a guessing game lol

were is the coil or tach terminal? which do i have? would i just use the negative side of one of the coil backs or do i have the little box with a tach terminal...im clueless..i know im an idiot

I believe you have to get a tach driver, MSD makes one. ~Brian

only 99+ cars require the tach driver, because they have the coil-on-plug setup.

hopefully this picture will help you out

this is behind your stock cluster. Just tap into the tach signal wire and you're all set.

I'm not aware of one. But personally, I dont like running wires into the engine bay if at all possible. It clutters it up IMO.

You can also tap into the ECM connector, and I think that may be a tad easier than pulling the gage cluster out.

Find the pin 48 on your processor in your passenger side kickpanel. Its a tan/yellow wire.

I'm pretty sure this will work for you, but alot of the information I have on it says 96-97 cobras. So make sure yours isn't a coil-on plug setup, but I'm pretty sure its not, and you can do it this way.

well i tapped into those wires and the blue wire on the headlight harness and got everything is....problem is the tach is a piece of crap some times it works fine but seems to be off from the stock one a little and some times it wont go past 1k rpm or dont move at all....i guess its just old or somthing has gone bad....guess ima have to fork out some do and just get a brand new one....thanks for the advice though....worked perfect!!! thanks again
