Default I FINALLY have track times!!

Went to the track tonight...got 4 runs in. Here they are:

Run 1 Run 2

R/T .923 R/T .787
60' 2.09 60' 2.03
1/8 9.45 1/8 9.52
MPH 74.58 MPH 73.17
1/4 14.65 1/4 14.82
MPH 95.29 MPH 92.17

Run 1 was good at first. I hooked up real quick and had no spin through first. I hit second and felt the back end start to wander. I spun through all of second and finally shifted to third. Re-gained traction and ran a 14.6. Second run, I hooked up again except this time when I hit second, I didn't spin at all. Just a good bark. I got all excited and proceeded to miss third
figures... Still ran a 14.8 though.

Run 3 Run 4

R/T .772 R/T .875
60' 2.39 60' 2.41
1/8 10.11 1/8 9.67
MPH 73.94 MPH 75.65
1/4 15.30 1/4 14.79
MPH 95.68 MPH 96.62

I was pumped from my 60' time on run #2 and got giddy at the line. Revved too high and spun pretty bad (2.39). When I spun, Ididn't try and baby it at all. I just kept teh hammer down. Run 4, the same thing happened and I spun too much (2.4 yikes).

Overall, I was happy. My lowest 60' was 2.03 and my best 1/4 was 14.65 spinning through second. If I could put a run together where everything goes right, I think I could pull a 14.2 or so. Oh yea, I don't know what my DR's were set at because I never set the pressure in them. So what do you guys think?? I wanna run a LOW 14 before the supercharger goes on...

Yea, I really need to practice. I forgot to mention that this was the first time I ran a stick at the track. I learned how to drive a stick last fall so I don't have that much experience and I had NO experience at the track. I know the car has more in it. It's the DRIVER that needs some work.

I'm not going to put the Paxton on until I get my times down in the 14.1-2 range. Hopefully, with a 1.9 60' and some good driving it will be attainable.

Stang Crazy. this is the first time i ever raced. it was at Cecil County Maryland. it was 104 degrees out. here are my times: your times arent that bad. your reaction time is better than mine. i had crappy street tires. i had to launch at 1400! i know i could hit high 13's with DR's. i need alot of practice! just to let you know, i was beating 96-98' GT's with light mods compared to what i have. the 4v's i couldnt even touch!

I'd venture to say something's wrong with your car. 14.65@95 and you have 4:10s in a t5? My car runs a higher trap speed and time and it's an auto. Your first 2 60's are about the same as mine too.... how many miles on your motor?

FivepointOH:

My motor has 64,9xx miles on it. I expected to be trapping around 97-98 mph so when I kept hitting 95, it surprised me a little. I was shifting each gear at about 5500 rpm.

Oh yea, lately when I'm cruising, when the rpm's are above 1500, I can hear a squeak coming from the engine compartment. It goes away when the rpm's drop below 1500. I thought it was just my belt but maybe it's more??

I also never advanced my timing. I don't know how to do timing so I don't even know what it's at now...but it was never advanced.

I know all about crappy street tires and bad launching as well as bad driving i've got them all !!!! Try launching off idle/ 1/2 throttle 1st gear because the quad shocks won't line up correctly with the turbo coupe rear axle the previous owner installed (so they don't fit)
Stang_Crazy you didn't do that bad out there. You seem to be in the general range of what your car can run. Practice makes perfect. You should be able to get it down more.
I'm not wasting any more runs beating up my wheel hopping car until i get some lift bars, Upper C/A's and tires! If you get some suspension your car would launch like a MOFO and you won't have to worry as much about wheel spin

I've seen cars pick up a lot from timing advance... the timing is something really easy to do. Do a search on setting the timing on windsor and you should find it. You might want to run 92-93 octane after you bump the timing to avoid detonation.

I went back to the track tonight. It was the first night that they had test and tune on Tuesday's and NO ONE was there. I got in 7 runs!!! I'm pleased to say that I improved my time from a 14.65 to a 14.53. I'm still only traping around 95-96. Overall, I was pleased to have bettered my previous best but I know that with better driving, I can get my times even lower. It just takes practice.

Oh yea, I still didn't check my tire pressure so who knows what the DR's were at...and I never advanced my timing...yet...

Not bad man, my coupe is lighter, but i went 14.1 with stock exhaust(cats), electric fan, cai, aluminum d/s, when i lost the swaybar up front i got down to 1.9 60' 13.9 once, and consistent 2.0's on 225/60/15 firestones, it was tricky, and i understand with 4.10's it's even more tricky, advancing timing could actually kill a little mph, but give you some better lowend, i trap 97 mph average with my taller tires, with e.t. streets on a cool day i trapped 99 once (a shorter tire) iced intake also.

What rpm is everyone shifting at?? I have been shifting around 5500 rpm. I think this may be too high because a couple runs I shifted around 5100 and trapped over 96 mph. First gear is usually all over the place because the shift comes so fast, I'm still not ready for it... And yea, the launch is tricky...even with the DR's. I'm going back tomorrow to see if I can bang out a 14.4 or at least beat my 14.53. God, I love racing...I wish I could just stay there overnight and make pass after pass after pass...
