I got a rude awakening yesterday

As much as i would love the whip a z28 i must admit, if i would have got the chance to run this black z28 yesterday he would have handed me my tail. I thought my car even with light mods was at least in contention with the new z28's, but i just dont know, I want to buy a blower but i know i need to rebuild the motor first, dam i hate being broke.

SSSHHHHH!!! can you hear the whirl?? ITS COMING!!!!

What parts do you have on your car?

lets see, i have 3.08 rear out of a aod, pullies, full exhaust,14 degrees of timing, ram air hood with functional system, k&n,pro 5.0,hd tremec, subframe connectors, 9m wires, not a whole lot.

Are you sure you have a 3.08? AOD's never came with 3.08, only 2.73 or 3.27.

Why do you need to rebuild the motor? A Vortech A-tirm would be a great investment and doesn't beat the motor to hell or need all new internals to be able to run it. What year/model stang do you have?

im not sure on the rear gear then, i know it came off an 89 lx 5.0 aod. The motor really doesnt smoke unless im pegging almost 6 grand which i dont do often. Plus if i get a blower i wont have to tack it so high will i??

Z28EATR 03-09-2001 03:55 PM

oh yea the stang is a 88 lx 5.0 drop top, it has about 90,000 miles on it, but the guy who had it before me garaged it and didnt drive it like he stole it so its a solid running car.

If the new Z28 wasn't a drop top auto, I don't think you'll stand much of a chance. Your car probably runs about a 14flat at best.

It can still happen if they guy in the Z can't drive or he loses traction real bad off the line, but don't count on it.

Z28EATR, You might even run it at a higher RPM with a supercharger because it has to build up that boost. I could be wrong though. Im no S/C guru. Those new LS1's are definitley tough. I can usualy beat the stockers but with simple crap and B.P.U.'s they still take me in the last few gears.

Josh-I have a friend who has a '91 GT hatch w/ an AOD and 3.08's, at least thats what he said, not necessarily saying you're wrong...

I ran a late model z28 last year at the 1/8 mile track with my 85 GT mustang. He ran 9.13 and I ran a 9.34. My mods are K&N, Flowmaster exhaust, Edelbrock 600 performer carb, SOON to come next week is my B-303 cam and new Weiand intake... I hope to get another chance at that z28 this year...i'm still running 3.08's though. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

An LS1 will rape you. Also, I think you may be shifting to high (or am I shifting too low at 5300). You can try an LT1 Camaro and hope to run even. I thought the AOD's came only with 3.08s or 3.27s as an option, but no 2.73.
