Exclamation i got smoked by a jeep grand cherokee

believe it or not i was at the local 8th mile track last night"elk creek" i usually run very high 8s to low 9s depending on the track, well i lined up beside a new jeep grand cherokee, the lights on the tree dropped and we were off. by the end of the track he had me by about a car length,i picked up my time slip and it said 9.17 i looked at his time and it said 8.67.. i will admit my jaw dropped, next time around i got behing him in the staging lanes and i saw a sticker that said got boost but i have no idea what it had done to it.I mean this is a very heavy suv..anybody have any ideas what could have been goin on under the hood?i meen this thing was running better times than the ls1 cameros....tell me what ya think!

peace

Dont they come with 5.7 liter engines? Or is it up past 6.0 now? They've got lots to improve on. If this guy strapped a blower on, he could very easily be making mad power.

Post not sure

i think it might be a 5.8 but im not sure but it was the new body style, i think they might be full time 4x4 that would explane the hellacious launch, but who knows, im still amazed that i got smoked by a vehicle that heavy, oh well cant win them all

Some of them came from the factory with the 5.9 L 360 Magnum V8 engines. Vortech and a few other companies make superchargers for the Cherokee. Try to findout what he's running under the hood.

If you want crazy, here goes: Dodge Ram Turbo diesel 12.40@111! I wouldn't believe it had I not seen it last night at Mission at the street legals. It belonged to Lordco, which is one of the largest chains of auto parts stores in western Canada. The intercooler was bigger than the radiator! Looked stock from the outside and just sounded like a diesel truck to me!

The old body style of the Jeep Grand Cherokees offered 5.9L engines. The new body style is only 4.7L. My dad owns a '00 Grand Cherokee. The 4.7L V8 is rated at 225 hp I believe. The trannies have selections for 2WD, 4WD all time, and 4WD part time. It has 3.73:1 rear gears and posi-traction. I need to take my G-Tech to my dad's sometime. I'm curious as to what it'd run.

I bet this guy had a turbo or other power adder. Great times for a big ole SUV.

Default 4.7 are no joke

I owned a 2000 JGC it had a 4.7L and would smoke my buddies 5.7L JGC. The beauty lies in the slip/grip trans built into them. However, my jeep would have NEVER taken a Mustang. So I guess this guy must have had some type of power adder. There fast but not that fast.

Shogun- You're buddies Grand Cherokee probably had a 5.9L, not a 5.7L.

I bet I could pull some pretty impressive 60' times considering the weight/suspension of my Jeep. They are torquey little bastards, actually. The 3.73 gears are amazing. The top end isn't too impressive though. I raced a car that ran 15.5s with our Jeep. He beat me by maybe 3 lengths up to 80 mph. I was pretty impressed with it.

What would you guess they run, Shogun? High 16s/low 17s maybe? I really need to G-tech it!!!

He was definately running some boost on it. Don't know what kits there are for the 4.7L, I do know that Kenne Bell made a kit for the older ones.

just got this off the jeep site

Grand Cherokee's new 4.7L V8 high-output engine is the strong silent type. A modified version of the standard 4.7L V8 engine, it delivers impressive 265 horsepower and 325 torque rating, while providing a smooth, quiet ride.

There was a jeep grand Cherokee as jax raceways (1/8th mile track) that was running a 250 hp shot of n20. I have no idea what he was running because I never got to see him make a full run. I heard he was really fast.

My friend went to the track with me (his first time at the track) He got lined up next to the jeep and they took off and the jeep jumped out of the hole hard (he was running slicks) then he broke an axel and almost took out my friend’s car. Scared the hell out of my friend.

Someone said he was running in the mid to low 7's.

Well, I got curious today, so I G-Teched my Jeep.

It was better than I though. I figured a high 16/low 17....My best run was a 16.31@86.7 mph. I had a couple 16.55s and a 16.49. Then I tried just punching it without brake torquing it, I ran like a 16.8. Then I tried powerstalling it really high but it just spun really bad...ran like 16.7@87.7mph.

I can't wait to get my Mustang done and G-Tech it. I've only done 3 cars since I've had it.

'92 GMC Sierra Pickup 5.7L 2WD--17.77@81.5mph
'88 Ranger STX 2.9L 4WD--19.29@72.9mph
'00 Grand Cherokee 4.7L 4WD--16.31@86.7mph

I haven't even had anything in the 15s!!!!

Soon....the Mustang will get me there.....lol....

Looking at that 1/8slip thats not a great trap speed in the 1/8 for a supercharged Jeep. The one I saw in a magazine ran 14 @ 100 or 99 not 100% sure. If it was supercharged his trap speed in the 1/8 should be in the 79-80 range, not 72. My mom has one, they are quick from a dead stop.

I believe the 0-60 was a low 8 something....not too damn bad for an SUV with a curb weight of 4,000 lbs!!!!
