I lost! What's the deal?
I lost to a 2003 GT from a 30mph roll. We race 4 times and lost by 1.5 car lengths each time. I went through all 5 gears also. I'm pretty sure the guys car was stock, because he had brand new temp tags on it.
My engine is completely stock now because I'm building my GT40 motor. But I still kept my off-road h-pipe, crane ignition, pulleys, and 373 gears. Does anyone know the horsepower ratings for the new GT's. I didn't think he would be me that bad. |
'03 GT = 260 hp
I'm assuming it was a stick as well. |
Yep, it was. I was very unhappy with the results. Maybe it's my driving. I was shifting at 5200rpm.
|
Not likely. They're 13 second cars when driven right. I'd say the outcome was about what I expected...
Time for more mods ;) |
Well, I've got my P heads waiting to be installled, now I'm looking for a nice cam and a good set of springs to go with it. Hopefully this will wake my motor up a bit.
|
Ditch your crappy stock heads and you will 0wn the 99+ GT's.
|
What were you doing racing in 5th gear with 3.73s?
|
Oh! Sorry, I didn't make it to 5th, I had to slow down before then> LOL
|
brand new car is more horsepower of course will own an old 5.0 in anyway shape or form prolly even with a bad driver.
|
5 speed notchbacks give 99+ GT's a run for there money stock vs stock.
Back in 99 I was spanking the new GT's in my 88GT vert with gears and bolt ons. On the average though a 99+ GT will beat a slightly modded 5.0. |

Really depends, if your cars in top running shape you should hang.
Two of my friends one has a 03 GT, runs 14.1@99 w/ a x-pipe and cat back and pulleys. Other buddy has a Stock 90LX, in a real good tune, driven well w/ 3.55's went 13.6@102. go figure. |

Ya it prolly had some slicks and something else for sure.
|
Yeah no one believes it. The more stock parts he put back on the car the quicker it went. That was on ET STREETS.
|
Hold up! When I had just 3.73 gears and a Flowmaster Cat back my car ran 14.0's all day long. (car had only 4,500 mile on it). This was back in the fall of 1992! (and no it wasn't 40 degrees either)
True my car as well as the other 87-93 Mustangs didn't make as much power as the new ones, but we didn't weigh as much as the newer Mustangs either! I have a 92 notchback. My buddy had a Gt with simlar mods and went on average 2-3 tenthes slower. By the way the car sat on stock Michlins 225/55/ZR16's. 14.05 @98 was the norm with a 2.0-2.1 60ft. And yes the car went slower with new mods until I found slicks!:D Then I broke into the 13's and I was hooked on speed from there out! My 2 cents and true! |
man I must suck at driving, I've got an 03 gt, I ran it with 3.73's pro50 and K&N, ( stupidly took out the quadshocks and have horrrrrrrrrible wheep hop) and the best I ran was a 14.4 at 99.3 mph, I know my trap speed was good for about 14.0, I've recently put on underdrive pulleys, t/a at 14 degrees, jd's performance upper/lower control arms, and steeda sport springs, does 14.0 sound reasonable?? This is also my first car/ 5spd, that I am paying for by myself! I'm also planning on spraying my car with a 100shot, high 12's sound reasonable with nitrous? thanks
|
oh yea how could I forget when I ran the car I also had 2 chamber flows, and an offroad H
|
Sounds like the wheel hop and probably a crappy 60ft was killing your ET. Since you more than likely fixed your wheel hop problem with the control arms I would expect you to hit easy 13's with your current mods.
On the nitrous you should knock off about a second over what you run all motor. Buy two junk rims and some slicks if you dont want any more dissapointing trips to the track. |
