Red face I may have my first race . . .

My "friend" has gotten me into a race. The opponent has a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Convertible, 24 valve 3.0 liter V6. He claims since it is a Japanese engine (stock everything) that it is "pretty powerful". My "friend" claims I only have a one second advantage off the line, and that I will get blown away if we go anything over 1/4 mile. I have a stock 2000 GT, 5 speed. Any comments or suggestions? I posted this in Female Power, too.

All I can say is your friend smokes a lot of Japanese crack. I have raced a couple of new Eclipses with the V6 and they are serious turds! You should completely destroy them no matter how long you race. Especially because the verts are heavy and stock for stock they are giving up about 60hp and who knows how much torque to the Stang.
I love people who don't know their a$$ from a hole in the ground...

Cool

You could allways make it fair for the Eclipse and race him in reverse. You should have no problems with him, especially with a new GT.

You will completely, totally, utterly, annhilate him.

Not even funny. You could start in 2nd gear and win. Pick your speed to race, you will blow the Eclipse away, anywhere, everywhere, in any race you can possibly come up with. Except who goes to the dealer for repairs first. That one, I'm glad to say is all Eclipse.

Oh, for your friend, who obviously knows nothing about what he's talking about, you have an additional 60hp over the Eclipse.

My sister has a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse 6 cylinder 200hp, and you have nothing to worry about, it has no torque, but it is KINDA quick for a ricer. You will be so shocked after you race and pull many, many car lengths! Good luck.
