Talking Impala SS kill!

Well just back from getting my pullies changed out and not being able to drive my car all weekend(see post in Mod board) I was cruising around looking for trouble. After about an hour I went to stop for gas and go home and low and behind this 96-97 Impala flies around the corner burning the tires. He was going the same direction as me and I was turning off a side road.

Timing was perfect we both got stuck at a light next to each other side by side. I was a little hesitant since we were on a main road through town known for cops. Light went green and I waited to see if he'd go or not, he did and pulled me by 1 1/2 cars, I stopped it in first around 3500RPM. Pulled him hard through 2nd and by 3rd was a good 4 cars ahead of him. The guy was real cocky so I turned on my hazards.

Pulled up to the next light and he asked what I had same for him. He had gears, pullies, ran air, exhaust work, etc... he said the car runs high 13's and he usually kills mustangs...not this one!

Light went green again and we went at it again. This time he jumped me good, about two cars. It didn't matter by the middle of 3rd gear I was in front by a car and pulling hard.

Not that this is some big kill or anything but I haven't had a street race in quite a while so it was fun, especially after getting my car fixed. Man Test and Tune on
Wednesday won't come fast enough!

Nice job Mustang92 (you better not lose to a stock Impala SS).

I like those cars. In my opinion, that is close to the ultimate family car: looks awesome, got a little push (I'd have to add some mods), nice interior, etc. Seems like everytime Chevy gets something right, they discontinue it: Impala SS, LS1s, Syclone, GN.

Nice kill. Enjoyable to quickly take the wind out of somebody's sail's.

No way bout the Impala being the ultimate family car. That's the Jaguar XJR! Hehe, mid 13's, with handling to boot. Only like 70k or something. Plus it looks absolutely awesome.

Good run. Way to represent the pony crowd.

I agree with Fox Body, the Impala SS is a sweet family sedan good power and size. Not expected to be quick but they can be made to move.

Good run.

Good job! Not to bring you down, but it was an Impala. And not to burst any bubbles out there, but the ultimate family car is the new Lincoln LS sport V6 with a Vortech and a T-56 and 4.10 gear. I would expect to see about 380-400rwhp out of one. Not too shabby.

bigwhitecobra, not to burn your grits, or pop your zits, but you're WRONG! Impala SS is ultimate family car, I don't care what you say! I'll buy an Impala and you buy your Lincoln LR, SE, TP,.... or whatever, and we'll race. Then I'll show you.

You buy yours first though.....

The Jag is ONLY $70k?? WTF! an Impala will run you to the most 1/3 of that, more like 1/4. And it is a mid to low 15 second car stock. I bet you can find something to do with the extra $50k.

Fox Body....I almost want to call you a traitor. But does it really matter? You like what you like, even though it is a big ugly boat(ha ha ha), and I like what I like.
Have you heard of the Mercury Marauder? Now that is a sweet looking ride, and I hear it is going to have the 5.4 laying between it's shock towers. Something to think about...

The Marauder will be killer! BUT, you do have to admit, Ford is biting Chevys style. Dont get me wrong, Im a Ford guy. Ford is taking every styling cue from the Impala SS (not LS, who would??)that made the Impala so successful. Too bad Chevy really messed it up though. Ironic, how when the Impala SS came out, it had no real direct competition from Ford and now its the other way around.

Thanks guys! Trust me I have no intentions of loosing to a stock one by any means.

I did get to run heads up against an 2000 LS1 corvette last night and took him 2 out of 3 passes (missed fourth on second pass). They were all close runs within half a tenth each time.

As far as the family car debate goes there is a 96 Impala SS at our local track that runs high 10's. It has a legal cage, nitrous, slicks and I'm sure a bunch of motor work. But it is very quite and looks stock except for the silver steel wheels with slicks in the back.

Hopefully ford will break into this market with the Marauder.

Bigwhitecobra,

I actually haven't heard of the Mercury Marauder. I take it it hasn't come out yet.

Naw, I'm not as adamant about the Impala SS as being the ultimate family car as I wrote previously, I was just screwin w/ you (even though I still do feel it's a decent car). I'd buy a '96 SHO before I'd buy an Impala. A friend of mine had one that was real nice. He let me drive it for a whole day and I got a little envious.
