Hammer 10-16-2001 12:33 AM

It just doesn't get any better than this...

Had to make a Wal-Mart run last night, and as I was coming out I saw a couple of young guys I had met in a car show. They have a beautiful 347 stroker with a vortech blower, this thing puts out 500 horses nowadays....
I had convinced these guys of the capability of the 4.6 about 2 months ago when they spied me as an easy kill before they had their monster set-up tuned correctly.
Imagine their surprise when it was neck and neck up to 90mph where we shut it down... (I wonder how bad they'd beat me now with that 347 running right...)

They were showing a couple of LS1 "kids" what a real car looks like... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

Anyway, I stopped and talked with them a while and headed to my car to go home when I hear the following: "Nice looking car too bad it's slow..." I turn around and the Mustang guys were pointing to some skinny runt with his buddies in the 2 Camaros...
I was actually going to let it go as I turned around and heard: "I bet you 50 bucks that modular can take both of those lead-sleds." It came from the 347 boys...
I couldn't believe I was thrown in the middle of this. The Camaro kids were ready to get that easy money and didn't even come over to LOOK at my car. They just dared me to follow them to a light as I heard one kid say, "I don't care what he's got, those heads flow like crap..."

I said what the hell as we hit the light at the 3 lane street. I was in the middle between 2 LS!s ready to kill another "feeble" 4.6...

The light was about to go green when the passenger (each LS1 had 2 guys in it) in the left LS1 saw my pillar guages and heard that unmistakable sound.... "Oh s$#t, he's got a blower!" At that instant the light went green and I had a great launch (one of my few). I think the driver of the Camaro on my left was distracted by his passenger's outburst and got off the line late, and when he did hit it, I heard him spin bad...
He was out of it by the end of first... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

The guy on my right was right there with me until the middle of second, when I started to walk him, and by the top of third he was just about 2 cars back, and I was still pulling quite well....

I hit the flashers and the game was over. As they caught up the disbelief in their eyes was obvious. I gave them a thumbs up and said: "I think there's a couple guys waiting for some money"
At that point I was homeward bound... It just doesn't get any better than that.... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

The best part about that story is that the 347 guys knew you were good enough to take them. You don't see that very offen. The next time you see those guys, they should buy you a tank of gas or something.

Good kill. Later.

Considering he probably paid less with all his Mods than an LS1 I think that's pretty cool. And even if he paid a little more, I'd take his used 98 GT over a new LS1 any day.

Great story Hammer - sounds like a dream come true!

As for HaveUEatenAChevyLately, yes LS1's are fast stock - and even faster modified...but I bet you won't see them on the road for 10+ years like most Mustangs...unless you like your dash rattles, your creaking chassis, and the blue smoke comming out of your tailpipes. :=)

Hammer 10-16-2001 11:55 PM

Hey Ford\lately\whatever,

I'll try to remember how fast LS1s are stock while they're in my rear view mirror...

It's run what ya brung buddy.
And they brought a knife to a gunfight...

hmmm seems u cant prove u acutally beat them, so sorry if i cant believe u, nice dream though, dont think ill come true unless u put $5,000 more into ur stang, I wouldnt judge chevy that bad, Mustangs have squeaky suspension, nasty plastic interior, seats which offer no lateral support and power that a lawn mower engine can handle, Until then make mines an LS1 w/ 6 speed and let the race begin, although i wont be much of a match. What makes me laugh even more is John Coletti's Stang which makes 400 hp and 380lb pounds of torque couldnt beat a stock LS1 camaro in the quarter, the best quarter mile run by a stock LS1 ran 12.84 documented on GM high performance the best run for Colettis stang was 13.28 and coletti's stang had the best parts in the stang http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif what a joke

LOL,

I have personally been in his car when he has KILLED, slaughtered, murdered, left hung out to dry, ripped 'em a new one, and flat out beat LS1's.

And I must say it is so much fun to watch these guys think they are going to stop on an SN95, and not only get beat, but get beat bad.

Well how would you explain the Cobra R, with only 385 HP pulling mid 12's (on slicks)...

CAMARO GUY 10-17-2001 06:27 PM

I would be one thing if we were talking strictly stock cars. but were not. and any car can be made fast. mustang, camaro, honda, yugo I don't care what it is, it can be made fast. so what is the point of another flame fest. please let the bench racing stop.

btw: HaveUBeatenAFordLately?-what do you drive anyway?

blue00gt 10-17-2001 06:41 PM

Haveyoueatenshitlately,

I have also seen a 600hp roadrace Fox body run a 15 second 1/4-mile, but what the hell does that mean other than the guy had traction problems because of the handling setup? Also, what relevance does that have to the conversation at hand?
I guess the difference between us is that I hate GM products with a passion, but I wouldn't let that turn me into a fool who makes childish comments just to try to aggravate others (bravo, by the way circus monkey, because you did piss me off).

bri32z 10-17-2001 07:05 PM

Great kill Hammer. Not all of those brand X cars are fast. Not all stangs are slow. There is a guy with a stock 97 x car that thinks he will take me bad because he has an 80 shot. I was told he had intake, heads cam, and all that but it was rummor. Still would of raced him anyway.

Interesting how a new GT puts out way more hp than your 305 or 350 powered junkyard beater isn't it? But yeah, it's pretty sorry. That and the interior is one of the biggest problems when people go to buy the Fbody. Talk about the Mustang being cheap, HAHAHAHAHA. You're an idiot.

LOL, you're right on that. Your 16 second early 90's Crapmaro is better suited to picking on Ford's best "Escort GT's."

Again, show your stupidity. Ford claims realistic numbers (actually conservative) for their stock cars. Not like your Chevy crowd which claims the best all time record ever from a factory tuner they were given to drive. Who else does that? Oh yeah, ricers.

Dude, I could care less that you can't believe I beat 2 LS1s.
I could also care less who's car did what in the quarter mile in some magazine. All I care about is how MY car performs, and it performs quite well.
I've taken stock Camaros, SSs, Trans-Ams, Corvettes, some Porches, an NSX, and tons of rice...

It occurs to me that you may not know what the he&& you're even talking about besides quoting magazines... Get your head out of your rear and you might find out that stock numbers on any car mean dog crap in the real world.

Have I ever lost to an LS1?
Sure. There are many extremely fast modified LS1s in the area that run quite a bit faster than me. One of my friends actually owns one of them. But you know what? He still respects the hell out of my car and what it can do...

If you can't take the fact that a modified Mustang can whip the snot out of a stock LS1 Camaro, you might want to go in search of a life....

Haveubeateno$flatey,
What kind of car do you drive? Do don't list it in your sig which leads me to believe it might be a John Deere... Please don't run to the camaro boards and copy a sig...
Trollin Trollin Trollin...
Anyway, I test drove the mustang and the camaro in 1988 when I got the LX. The camaro had such a rough ride, that if I ran over a quarter I could tell you what date it was. That is why I chose the Mustang. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/cool.gif
Granted, I haven't driven a new F-Body, but from what people have said on the camaro boards, there is a lot of "shake, rattle, and roll" going on.
