Cool Kickin Butt Old School Style....

Was out with some buds last night after a car show lookin for a bite to eat and maybe a little racin....

We were a site to behold, 2 Hopped-up black Grand Nationals and a bright yellow Mustang goin down the road...

Both GNs are pretty fast: The T-Top runs 12.0s in the quarter, and the coupe runs low 11s..... which put me in the un-enviable position of slowest in the group.

The coupe just got some new 9 1/2 inch drag radials installed and he was itchin to get on it at the light.... I gave a thumbs up and I INSTANTLY missed my drag radials. We got on it at about 15 mph and the instant we floored it I lost traction. He bit in the road and I was at his rear bumper as I recovered and shifted to 2nd.... no good... it was too much for the street tires as I started to fishtail and he was just headin towards the sunset. We got to the next light and he had a big grin on his face and asked where I went... hahaha...

Light goes green and we hit it from a 2nd gear roll. It was much closer this time. he pulled me in second until I was at his rear bumper.... I hit third and I pulled up to his rear wheels. 4th gear was all him as he pulled me pretty steadily from then on.

We got to the next light and I gave him the "bowing" motion through the open window saying "I have been owned", "I have been owned". We were both laughing as the other GN came up and we headed on to the drive-in restaurant....

On the way there, 2 guys in a stock cobra starts messing with the T-Top GN.... The GN gets on it from behind the Cobra (which has BEEN on WOT for about 2 to 3 seconds... The T-Top still passes them like they were standing still.... hehe

So the Cobra started messing with the coupe.... big mistake.... You can pretty much figure out the outcome of that.....

Beaten down the Cobra comes up to ME.... figuring he'll at least beat something.... I spanked him like a 2 year old with a bad attitude....

There was no doubt...
We were not a group that many folks would want to mess with....

Great Fun....

Don't know what years they are...

But they are certainly turboed V6's...

Surprisingly quiet too, except for when the turbo spooled up of course....

I know what you guys are talkin about, I am good friends with a owner of a turbo shop called Northeast Turbo and i have 4 good friends with GN's. They are a very easy car to make fast. The owner has a 9 sec . 89 turbo TA.

That's some good stuff Hammer. All the guys I know with fast cars are too old to really give them a go anymore. Need to make new friends.

I played with a G/N once, once. I knew what they could do, but wanted to see it in person. Back when I had my hooptie (77 Cutlass Supreme 4door, with the 350w(or was it r? Brain fart) {grandson of the Rocket motor}.
Crusing at 45-50, pulled up to a G/N and started surging at him. He kinda' looked at me like "You gotta be kidding". He started to get on it and I floored it in response. Then I heard the turbo. Then I saw the taillights fading rapidly.
"Bye Bye"*wave*
It was worth it tho, lol

Thumbs up

I've only ever experienced one GN and we were actually at the track (Not our normal racing venue LOL), and both on street tires. Anyway, he was bone stock and must've been light on the pedal because I owned him on all 3 back-to-back passes. I've heard rumors of others in the area, but haven't yet had the fun of running one. Who knows, maybe on the street the bone stocker would get me...but I doubt it. Wish I had GN sometimes. You know those ricers..."I can beat any 6-cylinder with my import...yada,yada,yada".

You're lucky Slow....

Most GNs on the road today that are actually in good shape are modded to the hilt.... variable boost controllers, larger turbos.... ugh, its insane....

Sopposedly GN's and Turbo T's are pretty slow bone stock like 15's but when modded can be extremely fast as already mentioned. Their major draw is that you cant really tell the difference between a 15 second GN and a 11 second GN

But like Hammer said there are not many bone stock ones left over, kinda like 5.0 Mustangs hehe.

Nick
