Killed Myself
Well, it was inevitable!
I was on the way back home from ordering some Nittos for the Cobra. My brother was driving my GT, I was in the Snake. We catch a light together, and I look at him. He told me he was going to smoke me, and I thought he would. The light turned green, and I tried not to go up in smoke. He jumped a little ahead, but I quickly caught up with him by second, and by the time I was about to go to fourth, the GT's front bumper was at my fender!! The cobra won! :0 There had been a chevy truck behind us watching, and at the next light, the guy pulled up next to me in the turn lane and said, "I was watching you guys, I think it was a tie!! Good race!" He was a cool guy, but I knew the real truth of the matter: the car I had bought for $8k just beat my $25k ride. Well, the decision I have to make right now is whether I'm gonna keep the GT for a while or not. I'm really thinking about selling it next summer and getting either an 02 Z06 (405hp!!) or an 02 Lightning. The cobra is getting kept for sure, I love it, but I really don't see spending all the money to get the GT to a level where I'm gonna be really happy with it, i.e. new tranny, blower, etc. Unfortunately, Im beginning to think the GT is particularly slow, even for an auto. I would keep the faster car. Especially since it cost 8K. It all boils dn to which car you prefer driving. Course if I could, I would keep both! I wish I had the choice...

Yeah, are there body problems on the '94? Sounds like there is something wrong to get it for that price - or did you jack it and leave $8k cause you felt bad?

SlW, I lined up against a 2000 GT auto at the track a few months ago. He did have pulleys but was otherwise bone stock. He ran 14.23 and I've forgotten the mph. Your car ran .3 sec. slower. I don't think the pulleys are good for that much. That was also in the summer in Houston (hot). So your GT might be a little off there. Why not try a custom chip and a dyno tune? Just a thought.

Rev: If I keep the GT, it's getting a supercharger, and in that case, a chip and dyno tune will occur at the same time. |

D*mn the auto! I raced my friend's 95 Cobra with a few more bolt-ons than yours with my 5-speed 2000GT and stayed right with him repeatedly. My car is about 90lbs lighter in the front than stock, and my motor is bone stock except for the TB that is not helping me yet anyway, so I think you need a manual! I guess my 315s out back don't hurt either.
(His Cobra runs 13.6 to 13.9 at the track by the way) Remember that even though you got the Cobra for cheap, when it was new it cost more than your 2000GT did... ------------------ 2000GT Atlantic Blue: Cobra R Wheels-17x9 255/40/17, 17x10.5 315/35/17, tubular K-member & control arms, Tokico 5-ways, coil overs, sway bars, strut/shock tower bars, 70mm FMS throttle body, Saleen nose. 79 Pace Car: Maximum Motorsports suspension - H&R Race springs, Bilsteins, rear control arms, chassis bracing, Draglites, 302 w/ Edelbrock Performer intake, cam and 600cfm carb, BBK equal-lengths & H-pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster 2chmbr exhaust, Al Driveshaft, 8.8 trak-loc, TCI C4 w/ 2000 stall, B&M |

UPDATE:
I was talking to my brother today, who is now the owner of the Cobra, and he said that when we raced, he wasn't flooring it?!?! I said, "What the hell? Why not?!?" He told me he didnt want to hurt my car. He said he was just trying to keep up with me, but not trying to pass me. So, once again, I am lost as to what my car can really do. Basically, I've narrowed it down to somewhere in the 14.2-14.5 range, depending on my launch. This weekend I took off all the steeda badging on my GT, and that sort of renewed interest for me. I think I will keep it, and just save up for a blower, and eventually, when the auto blows, a manual tranny. Thanks for listening. |
