Lancer??
Anyone know how fast a new Lancer is. He kept looking over like he wanted to race. Just want to know if I have a chance.
|
It'd be a close race. I think they have as much HP as you stock, and they are a lot lighter.
|
They're pretty slow. 9 seconds to 60, maybe?
|
the new lancer are rated 120 hp i believe...but the lancer evo vii thats coming out next year i think is 250-276 hp....
|
Who makes the Lancer? I can not find it on WWW.carpoint.msn.com any where. Thanks guys.
|
Mitsubishi.
It's new for 2002, also. |

It's not 276. It's closer to 300-320. AND it's a sedan.

300-320 HP?
The article that I read said that they would likely tame the engine down for the North American market to 250 HP. 300-320 HP, is going to last real long in a little engine like that, And if the engine does last, the rest of the car won't. |
Well, they've been making the Evo for several years now. If the engine couldn't hold up to 300+ HP, I would imagine they'd have done something about it before now. Whether they'll detune it for the American market...I don't know. But as is, the Japanese-market Evo VII makes better than 300hp. Period.
|
All Japanese sports cars before the 2003 model year were limited to 285 rated hp due to a gentleman's agreement, but they mostly were making over 300 (you don't think our mid-90s Supras and 300ZXs actually had more power than the Japanese models, do you?). As for the engine not holding up, this is at least the third generation of turbocharged Lancer Evol, and I believe it is a 6 cylinder, not a 4, so it should hold up as well as one could expect any Mitsubishi to hold up (although Mistubishis have horrible quality and reliability).

Evo VIII
The latest lancer has all the body kit and none of the motor of the Evo cars. The hot Mitsu we see will be badged the Evolution VIII and will be a direct contender to the Subaru WRXsti. They both will end up having a little over 260bhp, four wheel drive, and probably 6 speeds. The cars will not have to torque to match you, but they are light and are based on race cars. So I would imagine reliability to not be such a problem. the WRC is a pretty tough circut and America doesn't have any cars in it currently (I think). Have fun.

The WRX and the EVO VII are bad ***
These cars are no were near rice. I follow the WRC Pro Rally and both of these cars are top contenders. If see these cars next to you be afraid. The USA is going to detune these cars but they are easily moded back to the UK rating with aftermarket exhaust and a turbo boost control. So watch out guys.
|
I've only got one thing to say to the Lancer guys: Bring it on!
|
Don't forget there is at least one American car in WRC - Ford Focus.
