EZRIDN Vs. Maxima SE
Crusing in the '86 GT tonight and i pull beside a brand new Maxima SE. Guy is about 30 or so drivin so i think he might go. I don't expect him to. He is about a half a car behind me sitting at the light.
Light changes and all i hear is tires spinnin from the Nissan. I nail it and just fry the tires in first and he pulls a fender on me. Click 2nd hard and i spin the tires for about 35' or so while the Maxima now has a half car lead on me. 5K is coming up in 2nd and for a split second i debate on powershifting the new T-5 that i just put in 200 miles ago or just click 3rd soft. 5K...BAM...powershift and get a hard bark from the tires and pull to a one car lead at 5K in 3rd where i shut down. He shut down to and we exchanged thumbs up and went our ways. FYI...that car moves pretty good. I know they have 260 HP and it was a good runner. Anyways...thought i would share a run from the '86 GT. |
Geez, EZ, if it's really that hard to shut down a Maxima, and do you really know how to drive?
Those Nissans are 16 et cars aren't they? I've been kinda going easy on you because you have a new F-body, are am I confused you with someone else? Rev |

New nissan maximan 16 seconds? Never seen one run at the track, a new one that is..but magazines (i know) have gotten 14s out of them. They do have 260 HP and six speeds. Maybe you have me confused with someone. What does going easy on me mean? Sounds like you are trying to start something. I hope not b/c i just like to share my fun run ins. And yes i could have launched better, anticipated the light, shifted just right as to not fry the tires, but it was a fun stop light run...not the end of the world. |
nice run ez.
what did you get bored with the ls1 and fire up the stang? 260hp in a 5spd maxima should be good for better than a 16 sec et? |
No, not trying to start anything, LOL. I was somewhat surprized that a Maxima would come into the question?
Espesially a question from a Fox Body or an LS-1 F Body owner . Give me a clue, I obviously need one, hee, hee. Pick'in on Maximas just ain't necessary in my opinion with your cars. Rev |
Again EZ, no flames were really intended. Still seems strange that a Maxima came into question? Your 14 second Stang should womp him really good, maybe by a second or more at the track. That's why I was questioning the race? I think your F-Body might beat him by 2 seconds or more? Just my guess though.

Everything ive heard they are pretty quick especially the 6 speeds. Plus everything is different on the street. Also doesnt help that he was spinning when the other car was going. And whats wrong with having both an ls1 and a stang? If i could afford it i would love to. They are sweet cars.
Later, Nick |
hey Rev those maximas run high 14 sec ET's with decent traps. If this guy got a good jump on EZridn he'd have his hands full. The new maximas are no joke if you're driving a low to mid 14 sec stang. Be careful out there, family sedans are getting rediculous!
|
Its cool Rev...I really do apperciate your comments on this board. The older Maximas were 16 sec cars. My mom even has a 91 5 spd that has either 160 or 190 HP. Its a pretty peppy car. This Maxima, even knowing they have the 255 HP and 6 spd, surprised me. When i was in 2nd gear spinnin he was pulling me! But i was thinking when i hook its over....ha ha.
GONZO99TA...The LS1 is more of a weekend car/drag strip car. I was just driving it daily for a while b/c the T-5 in the stang went south. The LS1 will be back at the track this friday if the weather holds out since i am only about 20 or so minutes away from it. Stoplightwarrior.......Yea that Maxima got the jump on me, and i also spun BADLY (was fun spinning though and hanging in there). The way i pulled in 3rd gear though i could tell i would trap better than him. I made up the half car deficit and pulled to a one car lenght lead in just 3rd. But again i was just having some fun :) MidNiteBLu....i have heard the same thing too. |
No, way Ezridn this is all made up there is no way a car motortrend says runs 6.4 sec to 60 (no 1/4 listed) could give you a good run when he got the jump and the stang spun  That and ezridn couldn't drive his way out of a wet paper bag
If you ask me it sounds like a fun run and a nice kill. This was not serious street racing this was just having fun. |
nissans are pretty hard core. i used to have a 240sx w/ rims intake and exhaust and i could dead-heat my buddy w/ a 95 GT AODE, w/ full exhaust, pullies, and a K&N fipk. i got a 15.1 out of it at carlsbad. i heard those new maxima's are supposed to be pretty sick. and if i'm not mistaken they are rear wheel drive.
|
The Maxima's are still FWD, and they have an optional 6 Speed, the Altima's get the 5 speed.
Just watch out, the Maxima's are not the only family sedan capable of 14s. I just love having a total sleeper, that is untill you can hear the blower whine. Later, |
OK, you'all have convinced me. I'm now gonna have to go find a new Maxima and blow his doors off just to see how close he can hang.
If I lose though, I'm gonna have some kind of stuff all over my face. But I doubt it. I expect to win by 20 car lengths in the 1/4 mile. Any Maximas want to run in Houston? On a side note: We did have an '87 Maxima. It was a decent car and quite quick for that era and for a 4 door sedan. It had a good 3 L SOHC engine. I actually liked it alot. I would guess 17 seconds in the 1/4 mile? Rev |

But what i found was that they are not all sleepers....Vortec makes a supercharger for them. Crazy huh? lol. |

I love those Regals man! Sedanman was thinking of getting one as his daily driver to replace the jeep of his. I raced one at the track when i was in my LS1, and took him but he ran a 14.2 @ 95!!!!! Not bad at all. Those look like they would be fun cars and catch alot of people of guard. Not sure of the mods he had, only thing i saw was a K & N sticker. Looked bone stock though. |
EZ, I don't doubt that some misguided individual with enough money could build a fast Maxima 4 door sedan.
I question if anyone has actually done that? And why would they do it? There are fast Hondas, stripping to bare intioriors, Integra engines, turbos with N2O added, and with exhaust and intercooler mods that do muster good times (exceptionally good times). Do any Maximas do that? I've never seen any. Rev |
Fast Maximas
I hate to break up all the fun, but the SE Maxima weighs 3224lbs, makes 255bhp, and runs through a 6speed. The new 4.6 coupe weighs 3273lbs (deluxe), makes 260bhp and has a 5speed. The only advantages a GT has stock are 60 more ft/lbs of torque at 4000 rpm and rear wheel drive.
You don't have to strip those cars to be fast any more than you do a mustang. The VQ (their designation) block is one of the best 6's you can get. I can't find the quarter mile stats, but Stillen makes performance parts for that car, so I'm sure there are some 12-13 sec ones out there. (Yeah, that fast) |
But what do they run? I'm betting 16 seconds. If anyone can say faster, I won't question it. My thought is that they are relatively slow 3500 lb. 3L V-6's. I want times if anyone knows.

Road and Track has the 2000 Maxima (with only 222hp) running the 1/4 in 15.9 @88. I would guess low 15 or high 14 for the 2002, and I'll keep looking.
|
One day on the way home from work I raced the new Maxima in my 00' GMC 4.8L truck. My truck runs a 16.2 bone stock and he spanked my *** pretty good with a passenger in the car. This is at 3000ft, I would guess he at least could run a low 15.
