Stang and Lincoln Heads
Ok I have a 5.0 and am unfamiliar with SOHC and DOHC engines. A peer at work was stating that you could use 4.6 DOHC Lincoln heads on a SOHC Mustang. Any truth to this statement? And if so how much additional crossover parts are required?

The Mark VIII heads are basically the same as the 96-98 Cobra heads, but with less agressive cams. They will bolt up to a GT block. The problems are he will need an intake manifold, timing chain cover, throttle body, ect. And I don't think the exhaulst manifold or headers will fit correctly (could be wrong on that). That's if he doesn't use IMRCs. If he does, he's going to need a computer and wiring harness.
The real "Gotcha!" of all this, is that when he's done the gains wouldn't be all that great anyway, probably less then 260 total hp. The GT short block + Mark VIII heads make for low compression. |
