Mustang Averages at track?????

Last night i went to the track, and there seemed to be an unusual amount of newer mustangs, and none of them were running that great (13-14's) and when i looked around most of them were bolt on cars, but i did think the newer mustangs were faster than that w/blot ons, anyone have some input if they see a lot of this at track?

Steven

PS I also ran the best ever in my truck, with a still traction limited take off in second (See Sig)

It's hard to hook a car on 17" street tires.

Greatly depends on the driver and tire. Most drivers cant get a new GT outta the 14's on stock tires, its very hard. With boltons and tires they are 13-12 cars.

A guy I work with has an '03 GT, with bolt-on's, slicks and suspension it has run a best of 12.5 can't remember the MPH. He's a hell of a driver though.

'03 Macxh 1

A stock '03 Mach 1 that I lined up against at the track ran a 13.50. I got him by a few lengths mostly because I got him out of the hole.

I don't know, maybe its just these valley guys can't build a car or something, the only mustangs i see are either in the 14's or 12's (Nitroused Notch) so far i havn't lost to a mustang but its probally been luck :) anyway, thanks for the replys

PS Josh- im taking off in second gear on street tires so i think that takes away any advantage 17" street tire car has :)

You're kidding, right?

17" street tires are an advantage?

Dark_5.0 07-28-2004 12:37 PM

When I had my 01 cobra I pulled 2.1 60 fts all day with the 17 inch tires and an IRS rear.

Keep in mind the air can get as bad as 4800ft here but the best I have seen is a 14.49 out of a stock 99+GT wich would be a high 13 at sea level.

69fastback 07-29-2004 02:24 PM

Most of the tracks in Califronia are alot slower than what you would see back east by 4-5 tenths. The only fast track in southern cal is Pomona wich you can't get on unless it is NHRA or super chevy.

SleeperGT 07-29-2004 07:31 PM

Down here in north FL, stock GT's typically run low 14's with 60 ft's of 2.2 - 2.4. With a few light mod's (drag radials, gears & exhaust) they'll run 13.7 and above with the 60 ft's of 1.9 to 2.1. Slicks make a big difference, seen pure stock '99+ cut 1.7-1.8 60 ft times. I've seen a few posts with guys saying they were on street tires cutting less than 2.0's, even some boasts of 1.9 and less, but I'd have to see it to believe it. Mustangs, espeically 5-spds, are very tough to launch.

Skyman 07-29-2004 07:48 PM

My buddys 03 gt, with pulleys only goes 14.0-14.1@99-100 stock tires, with a hell of a driver behind it. With him. 14.3-14.4@98

Lazer50 07-30-2004 01:11 PM

Sry, about the 17" street tires, i didn't mean it was an advantage, i meant that with 17s and spinning would be even to me taking off in a second,

So far that fastest stock pass iv seen was a 02 GT that went 14.311, then another with exhaust and stripped out interior went 14.2, im more suprised that the Fox cars arn't faster, i raced a GT w/5spd, he had exhaust, pullies, TB, MAF, and a Edelbrock intake and he as only running 14.4-14.6

'01 GT AOD

I lined up once against a n '01 GT AOD which was mostly stock (it had under drive pulleys). It ran a 14.21 et. HRP, where I race, is almost at sea level, but humidity is almost always high and summer heat here is also bad.

track averages

My Boyfriend has an 87' LX 5.0 He ran it at Mason Dixon in Hagerstown, MD on Sunday for his 1st time ever. It was 100+ degrees w/pretty high humidity and he ran 14.6 which was rather impressive to me because all he has is underdrive pullies, cat back Flowmasters and a short throw shifter! Other 5.0's where running low-mid 15's! He was only 1 second slower than an 02' Camaro Z28!

Any suggestion on weight reductions/hp increases would be helpful he a beginner at dragracing.

wow those times seem pretty slow. im hitting 14.1-14.3 consistently with just the basic mods and street tires. i wonder what DR's and a 125 shot would do for my car, what do you think?:)

Never waste money on drag radials.

I 60ft 1.94 on nitto drag radials and 1.63 on mickey thompson et streets.

That 3 tenths is the difference between 12's and 13's on my my car. 12's sounds alot better.

sdd228 08-07-2004 02:11 PM

what do you think my car would run with a 125 shot? what else do i have to do, to make sure my car can handle the shot?

Skyman 08-08-2004 05:04 PM

Get a 255lph fuel pump, retard your timing appropriately, and your set to go.

You could hit 12.5's with slicks.

First night i have lost to a mustang :) the guy was actually cool, he trailered in a N/A Bullet and ran a 12.919 @ 111, I think it might just be a combination of our track, and maybe a lack of experienced mustang drivers that are running the times below capabilities, but anyway, i also ran my new best 13.949. Oh im thinking of joining the late model mustang ranks again, i found a 95 GT 5spd, it has 65K miles on it and is bone stock, any ideas what these run stock, my old slug probally wouldn't have been in the 15's

Steven

PS A new GTO with a guy claiming he worked for vortech had an SQ-Trim on and was running 13.2 @ 6psi
