So you are basically telling all of us that the picture of your car with the open hood on your reader's ride page is actually a 5.0 motor, complete with 4.6l dohc cobra intake and cylinder heads and reverse rotation Vortech supercharger? How did you manage to pull that one off?

So what you are saying is that the picture of your motor in your reader's ride section is actually a 5.0? Complete with reverse rotating supercharger, center mounted alternator, dohc heads, cobra intake, etc, etc, etc? How did you pull that one off??

Sorry! I didn't mean to post the same thing 2 times.

That engine looks amazingly like the 4.6 in my wife's 1998 GT (minus the 'charger). Oh, and somebody stole your distributor too!

Hmmmmm.... You've got a Cobra, and with 13lbs of boost on a DOHC 4.6L you managed a best of high 12's/low 13's?

I hate to tell you, but most people pull that off with gears.

If you couldn't get that Cobra deep into the 11's with 13psi, something is seriously wrong.

and that picture isnt of a '97 4.6 its of a 5.0 before i got the trick flow efi for it
Are you saying that Photo3 is the 5.0 before switching the intake???

WOW, if that is true, that is quite the disquise for a 5.0, I must admit.

If cubic inches was your reason for the swap why didn't you go with a stroker? If your adding all new internals anyway I don't think it would have cost much more to go to a 347.

Why in the name of God would anyone drop a 5.0 into a 97 Cobra!!!!

For the money you spent and the time you invested you could've just bought a nice 94 or 95 Cobra that already had a 5.0L. Or why not just work with the 4.6! It does have lots of potential! Like 11s with a blower and gears...

This doesn't make any sense, to me at least. Like was mentioned, why would you swap a 5.0 in if your just looking for cubes? Would a 351W be any harder?

I haven't seen his pictures, but I already don't believe this!

Since when does Flowmaster make H-Pipes?

I didn't know that they did. I also didn't know that they sold separate tailpipes.

I also like that you mentioned you don't have any "cadelitic" convertors...

well a lil of the subject......my friends dad has a 1970 chevelle 454 ss........ but even though i am not a chevy man it is a shame on home this car is treated. It should be out on the street or strip running.instead it is his back yard with a pool cover on top of it with bird sh*t all over it.

I see a 4.6 in that picture. unless there was some rare 5.0s that came with center mount alternator and no distributor.

The Deuce 08-01-2002 04:09 PM

You're right mike, that's a 4.6 for sure. I wonder if Foxbodied fell into some kind of time warp. Seen three threads from the same day last year on here today.

stevstum 08-01-2002 05:03 PM

When I lived in Cali. I had a friend with a 69 SS and it had gobs of low end tork but it was not fast. It really could have used some gears but then it would have not been a collectors car.

Man, I was so confused until I looked at the date and realized how old this thread is. I looked at the date to begin with and saw July 22, and thought I don't remember anything like this from then. Then thanx to the deuce I realized it was July of last year. What's with the old threads anyway? Hopefully not just to confuse some of the less observant like myself.:D

foxbodied 08-01-2002 09:05 PM

i know i know........ since im new to the board ive been lookin at everything since the beginning and forgot what i was replying to and how old it was. My bad, sorry for the confusion.

lx mike 08-02-2002 04:19 AM
