Post Never Raced... Yet. Need Advice

I Am Going To Be Racing A bone stock 92 honda accord with an automatic because the kid thinks its hot sh!t.
I Was told to do a mild burnout, then dump the clutch at around 1800rpm.
does this sound right?
I am pretty confident my Stang will work his accord.
any tips?
thanks

LOL!!!!! You don't have to worry about a launch. You will massacre him at about 3/4 throttle. Just get the car going and then nail it if you don't know how to launch yet. You have nothing to fear.

Just pull out normal if you want you and you will still eat the accord. Although the advice on launching is pretty good. Launch your car as hard as you can get it launch without a lot of wheel spin, just practice and enjoy the power.

Ya, go out at practice. See how high you can dump it and still go, but in this race, you can dump it a lot lower and still absolutely DESTROY him. Think, he's driving a family sedan, with no torque, and if he has someone with him, even worse. But no matter what don't worry. This just shows how much ill gotten confidence people have in their cars. Even if you have a really fast car, you have to know what will beat you. I have an AOD convert, so I know that I can't take lots of stuff out there, I can still have a good race, a fun race. Racing is fun no matter what hapens.

Don't worry about getting a drag start, just get it moving. He might get the jump on you as a result, but that's okay you'll pass him after the first 100 feet.

If dumping the clutch doesn't work, I'd let it out quickly while holding the rpm at about 2000. If you want to win for sure, don't light 'em on the launch. It's hard to recover from.

Unless it's a money race or your at the strip, I wouldn't hassle with a burnout. You won't need it.

Ditto on what those guys said...

Had a guy with a 90ish Honda (Stock also) talk smack about racing until I asked him to "put up or shut up".

He shut up!!

Don't worry about that one.

Unless you have drag radials or slicks dumping the clutch at any rpm will make you spin. Dont dump the clutch at all. Let it out faster than usual and manupulate the gas. Leadsled is right, why in the hell are you worried about an automatic stock accord? Is this guy squeezing or something? Those piles of $hit run 17 second quarters if their lucky. I would wish you good luck but unless you blow your trans you not going to need it.

You could beat that ricer with a flat tire! I don't think you need to dump the clutch to show him your tail lites.

I agree with faststang, feater the clutch to keep the RPMS up w/o spinning the tires.

You could stall out off the line, have a dead battery, call a friend, hook up jumper cables, lock your keys in the car, call a locksmith, then start the engine and launch and still catch him and blow by within 1/4 mile.

If he is saying that he is going to have his dad race it because he is a better driver, i think its all bullsh!t. That father would know that a 4-banger is no match for a 5.0 I will place 10 to 1 odds that this race will never happen.
Anyway if it does you have not 1 thing to worry bout less u smoke your transmission!

Rock On Fostang!

Generally those dudes have never felt what fast really is. I have a buddy who used to think his late 80's prelude could smoke any Mustang. That was until he rode in one. He has had several stangs since then and he has said "You guys must have though I was a real dumba$$ when I had my Prelude". So there is hope for those who have not yet been shown the truth about speed.

if you don't want to feather the clutch then get you a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets and you will be able to launch at about 4 grand after a nice short burnout!
