514 cid, 14:1 comp, Comp Cams solid roller (custom grind), Blue Thunder heads, Comp Cams valve train w/Diamond pushrods. Doug Nash 4+1 crash box. CE 4 link 9" w/4.88 gears. It's in a 88 LX hatchback. Not really much of a street car but that's what it's intended for. Not alot of people believed it would run, but we showed them. I'll get my signature done when I get more time.

So you are telling me that you built an 8 second car in your back yard. Your combo does sound pretty good but are you running with no power adder no Nitrous or supercharger or nothin well if you really are running 8's in a street car than brace yourself cause the word will spread fast and you will end up in a magazine sooner or later.
What would be even better than your signature would be some pics of the engine compartment that damn car must be a beast. What were your 60ft and 8th mile times and what type of fuel are you running in that thing its gotta take some sort of ultra high dollar jet fuel or something to run those times all motor. Its one of two things either you know your stuff about motors nd have lots of time and money. Or you have gotten ahold of some killer weed, congratulations either way http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit 3.73 FMS gears cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. I am not jumping on him I am giving him the benifit of the doubt.
This guy that I work with builds racing engines and one of his clients has a car that runs in the 7's and this thing has tons of cash poored into it the heads alone costed $12,000.00 and that was for some 3 year old NHRA technology. Lets put it this way the guy has well over 100,000 dollars in the car. I just dont think that there is any way that you put the kind of cash it takes in a car to run 8's unless you are a professional racer or something. I dont know he might be a pro or maybe he just takes his drag racing very seriously. I would love to see some pics http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit 3.73 FMS gears cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. 5.0, i can buy a car that runs high 8's for $14,000.00..... the guy has time slips for 9's with the old engine, and it has a new motor that puts out 150-200 more hp...
but after careful consideration, there is no way i could justify it.. it can be driven on the street, but the range is about 60 miles (with no racing)(3 miles to the gallon on racing fuel gets expensive) by the way, what defines a "street car"?? ------------------ Black,84 GT,ground effects, shorty headers, 'open' dual exh.,302 HO(no pollution control crap),T5,89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 2122 cam,600 Holley, high volume oil pump... Some day (3:73 gears & N2O)!!! will this ever end???? |
I've got the car sitting in my barn. I just had this computer given to me and have heard about this site. Seems to be a few non beleivers.
5.0 if your buddy has 12,000 (18,000 Cdn.) into his heads and 100,000 (150,000 Cdn.) into his car I think he's a little more serious than me. It took me seven years to build my car. |

All I have to say is damn that must be alot of fun. The fastest car that I have ever been in runs an 11.73 and that felt damn fast to me. Having an 8 second car would be cool beyond words. after seven years of work it must have been nice to see all that hard work pay off. ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit 3.73 FMS gears cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. Itgoez,
Welcome to the boards!! Please don't take any offense if some of the guys seem a little skeptical. You've got to realize that we see a few trolls on here every once and a while, and it's not every day you see a member with a bonified 8 second car. Damn! That must be fast. I can't even imagine. I'm with the other guys...I'd love to see some pics. Anyway, once again welcome to the board. I know you'll find this to be the best site on the web. --nathan ------------------ --silver_pilate '91 GT, Built 306, Wolverine 1087 cam, ported Windsor Jr. Irons, and all the goodies...click the link to the left to see a full list of my mods... The car sounds mean. When did you buy the Blue Thunder heads? Why did it take 7 years?

8s? Whoa, that's gotta have some insane amount of power. That can't much of a street car at all, hope you've got a good trailer, but it must have been fun to build. 7 years is a long time, and now to see it all together must be worthwhile. I only wish I had the resources and skill to build something like that monster.
Get some pics up, I'd like to see what it looks like.. |
I have no doubt the combo Itgoez has listed goes 8's. As far as it being streetable that is really what the owner is willing to put up with. A 14:1 stroked big block with a solid roller and a nash in it will be drivable. Of course the valve springs won't last long and that solid cam will always want/need to be adjusted.(still can drive it though) It seems a lot of people here think it's impossible to go 8's. I know a guy with a stroked 351(400+) with a pro-shifted tremec that is going 9.60's naturally and he drives it. It's a car built for street racing. These guys make a living at this 1/2 grand a race is the norm for these guys. I've seen cars in the 8's race for 5 grand on the street. Heck if you're not going 9's with your street car these days you're nobody in a street racing circle.
