New times with E.T. Streets

I put on a set of 28x11.50 ET streets and was hoping for a near 10 second timeslip. Here is what happened:

About 80-85 degrees and fighting off rain. I set the timing at 16 degrees, aired the tires to 15 psi, and dropped the clutch at 4 grand. It felt like crap the whole way down, and spun hard on the launch.

13.3 @ 101 mph!!! WTF!! I open the hood to find my spout connecter on the radiator. Oops. I put it back in and drop the tires to 13 psi.

I burnout, launch at 4 grand, spin again, and run 12.85 @ 107.5 with a 1.85 60 ft. Getting better, but the mph is low and the tires are still spinning too much.

Next run I air down to 11 psi, launch at 4K, PULL A TIRE FOR THE FIRST TIME! and run a 12.70 @ 107.05, with a 1.78 60 ft. The traction is coming around, but the MPH is still a tad low. I figure a hookin' tire will sap a couple mph, but it feels a little soggy.

Next run the bottle goes in and I air down to 10 psi. Burnout, stage, and drop the hammer at 5 grand. BOOM! BOTH TIRES SEE DAYLIGHT! and I am powershifting on the spray down the track. I get my slip and see a good time, 11.62 with a 1.65 60 ft, but my mph is still down. 116.25. I usually trap 121-123 here, and 125 at Lapeer.

Hmmmm..... I let it cool down and pull the plugs. To my suprise the number 8 plug had no electrode! It was a melted glob at the end of the plug!

The night before I wanted to "test out" the E.T.'s and went out to Gratiot. I was running pretty warm, (around 200 degrees) and raced a couple sportbikes from a real slow 1st gear roll. I heard a slight pop ocassionally later that night, but did not pay too much attention to it.

I changed the plugs as it started to rain briefly. I am ready to have another go, and just as the track is almost dry the rain comes down in sheets. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

I have to drive 30 mph nearly the whole way home (100 miles) in the rain, and on E.T. Streets.

Too bad you didn't check the plugs earlier! DOH! Well, you still ran in the 11's on only 7 cyl's! Next time, the weather will probably be cooler & you should really see some good times & mph then!

It's funny with my car. I ran my best et & mph in the same run....

Man, I had fun reading your post. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif Those are some impressive ETs. You ran 11.6 @ 116 on 7 cylinders. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Driving skill can truly make the difference--and you seem to have it, ...also the intelligence of trial and error. Knowing myself, I wouldn't have even thought to bring extra plugs (but now I do).

Seems like those ET streets are treating you good though. But how 'bout next time not going lower than 12psi.

...when you said "I changed the plugs as it started to rain briefly. I am ready to have another go, and just as the track is almost dry the rain comes down in sheets," I was not surprised at all though, that CRAP happens to everybody-- especially me http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif ...but I can't imagine 30 mph for 100 miles... ON ET STREETS... IN THE RAIN! That's gotta be the worst combination.

The rain really sucked. I aired them back to 20 psi for the ride home and got to maybe 55 once or twice when the pavement did not have any puddles on it. The weather here has been really scattered this past weekend. Sun, then torrential downpour.

There is a local carclub shootout happening mid-October. The groups kinda came out of www.Camaroz28.com local Michigan section. The cool weather should really help.
If I can get back the 6 mph lost from the bad plug, and knock off 6 tenths I WILL GET MY 10 SECOND SLIP!!!!

Glad you made it home ok! My drag radials did ok for the most part as long as I didn't drive in the ruts in the road.

When and where is this *shootout*?

My MT ET Drags work best at 11psi. I can launch at 5500 and pull both front tires.

My best 60' is 1.69, and I only heat them up for about 2-3seconds max. I dont smoke em all that much at all.

That'd be awesome if you get a 10!

87vert,

The shootout is between the Motown Muscle group and the SLP (Street Lethal Performance) group. I am not sure of the exact date yet but both groups have sites. www.streetlethalperformance.net and www.ezboard.com, search under motown muscle.

Sky, I barely yanked them compared to a lot of 11 second magazine cars. Kinda wierd when the times are about the same to Evan Smiths car.
