300M

I agree srv1. Those times from a stock Jap 6 banger 4 door sedan are indeed impressive. I wonder how that compares to something like the Chrysler 300M or other American iron? Anyone know?

Thats not anything spectacular...you figure that it has 245hp and weighs about 3400lbs....not too far off from the 99+ GT's. But remember, its just an import.;)

2000 GT

I raced a 2000 GT at the track with AOD and it did run 14.23. That would equate to about 4 car lengths against a 14.67, wouldn't it? Of course that is a 4.6 V-8 against a 3.5? V-6.

I thought they had 255hp?

3.5 Maxima, Altima, 300M

Aren't all of those 3.5 L and around 250 HP? Maybe 3400 lbs.? All will be low on torque and run mid 14's-low 15's won't they. Not really exciting IMHO.

The new Maxima SE runs 255hp version of the VQ35DE. the Altima runs 240.

FYI the VQ35DE/6spd from a maxima is what im attempting to swap into the Fiero Project car. Long way to go but im trying.

Jthompson 10-29-2002 07:55 PM

Low on torque?!!

No way!

My buddy has an 02. 255 horse.

We took it to vegas, and weighed it down with about 900 lbs of weight. Me and 3 other big guys. I weigh 250 by myself.

I was at a signal and nailed the gas, it lit up the tires all through the intersection. Torque/bottom end power was impressive.

inferno 10-29-2002 11:06 PM

240hp and 240ft/lbs of torque. Variations of the 3.5 liter engine are also found in the Maxima, 350Z, Infinity G35 coupe and sedan. The Altima should be good for mid to high 14's stock. Good driver in an Altima, mediocre driver in a 99+ GT = Nissan victory.

Damn, It's faster than the SHO. But the GTP would be all over it:D

red82gt 10-31-2002 03:35 PM

I like the new altimas, If I needed a Family car, I'd have to take one for a drive.
Someone challenged my friend Jason and his 99 gt at the street legals at ashcroft, results GT by a ton (Jay treed the guy pretty badly .667 vs..9xx) and it went 14.05 @ 98.xx to a 14.9x @ 96.xx
It's funny I like Nissans, HATE hondas and some Toyotas (I like the old landcruisers older trucks and the wedge supras and celicas). In fact the reason I don't like the rice fad is because of HONDAS!

red82gt 10-31-2002 03:40 PM

Try this for a sedan my dad's 95 E420 Mercedes has done a 14.5 @ 99 mph on a Gtech, can't convince him to take it to the track though :D
Take off the 3 mph of optimism the gtech has and that's still 96mph, how many hondas run that stock?

is that rated at the wheels?

not spectacular? for FWD it is!

but since you are an import enthusiast, you must see those kind of times all day from FWD cars:rolleyes:

i agree with Red82gt. since Honda aftermarket got so huge, i really dont like most Honda's. I like the Toyota and Nissans.

If you look at most of the FWD V6 powered imports, they are all making around the same amount of power. In terms of 4 bangers, no, they are not making similar power, but with lower weight, they don't need to make the same amount of power. It is all about power to weight when it comes to drag racing and acceleration.

ItzDaLexus300 10-31-2002 10:30 PM

Lighter weight also effects Braking, cornering and other factors as well (Gas mileage). The ammount of sprung weight a car has relative to its spring rates is a large deal. 100lbs off a car is .01-.02G's in the skidpad ont he same suspension setup. :p
