Opinions on converting to c4
I am looking for opinions on converting my mustang from a t-5 to a c-4. I have heard that drivability will be worse and it will not be very streetable. I don't even know what kind of stall converter to run. Does anyone have any opinions on what kind of converter I should run and what I should do?

There are some considerations you need to examine. Is the car your daily driver? Actually, that isn't that important if you take it easy with the converter.
I just switched from a c-4 to a t-5. I wanted the fun associated with driving the t-5. I had a built c-4 (have, it's in the garage for when I blow this t-5 up), 2800 stall b&m converter, shift kit, reverse manual valve body, billet one piece input shaft, and aluminum driveshaft. Check my specs below to see my runs with it. I haven't made any runsd yet with the t-5, but it feels faster. 2nd gear feels like 1st in the c-4, third gear is second, and 4th is third. So, you can imagine, with 3.55's, you are reving like 2500 rpm on the highway. That part gets annoying after a while. while with the t-5, you are at like 1500 or so. you know what? find someone with a c-4, and go for a ride, see if you like how it feels. Also decide if you no longer wish to have the conrtrol you had with aq 5 speed. just my .02 ------------------ 12.54 @ 110.90 1.62 60' best with old car, will let you know once i finish the transfer to the new to me car click here to see my car! |

I'm going to swap in my C4 this week coming up. I will be running a full manual rev v/b and I have an Emerald torque converter on the way. Torque multiplication seems to be just as important and stall speed but you don't here much about it. Gary at emerald told me his have 2.8 Torque Mult. and a TCI or B&M only have about 1.8 . Also one of the things that make PI stallion converters so liked is there torque mult. which is also 2.8 But the emerald converter is about $200-$250 less than PI.

I just ut a C-4 in my 86 GT. I had a T-5 until just a few weeks ago. I love the C-4. I put a Precision 11" Street stall in it. It foot stalls at about 1900 on some wore out radials(just std BFG's) I have some McCreary's on the way. I kept the auto valve body. It has the hardened input shaft and a hard shifting shift kit. I'm running 3.73's. It kinda revs high at 60 MPH. But I mostly cruise town in it or race. My best run on those tires was 14.60 at 98.6(with G-tech) I hope to get in high 13's. My motor is stock(basic bolt on's) Just my .02.

It's going to be a 9.5" 3000 stall. The converter will be in anyday and the tranny will be in the day after and ready for the track. The only changes will be the C4 swap and a set of BBK LT's instead of shorties

I'm planning the same swap myself. Can anyone give advise on a flexplate. I think I need a 50oz with a 11.5 bolt pattern. Does this sound right? Where can I get the best deal on a flexplate?
Thanks, Mark |

The bolt pattern depends on the bellhousing size. The big bell takes the 11.5 bolt pattern and the small bell takes the 10.5 pattern. I have a 164t 50oz 11.5 bolt pattern I would sell for real cheap since I went with a 157t 50oz 10.5 flexplate
